Hi guys

I've developed a version of Route Sentry that also supports "adapter" connections. This means that it should work with Vista if you have a modem that supports both router and bridged modes simultaneously (half bridge mode).

The idea is that you configure the modem "router" with the "international" adsl account details, and then set up a single Vista "broadband" pppoe connection to connect with the "local" account (or vice versa). You would then configure RouteSentry to select the "adapter" as the international connection and the "broadband pppoe" as the local connection.

Unfortunately I don't have a modem that supports half bridge mode so I can't confirm if it works or not.

The beta install is here:
http://antibody.za.net/files/routesentry_0_05beta3.exe

This beta version WILL STOP WORKING after 1 November 2007. The plan is to release a final version once it's had a chance to be tested. I'd suggest you make a backup of your RouteSentry folder before installing this one just to be safe.

If it works for you in this configuration or you pick up any problems please let me know.

Thanks. :D

So anyone know for sure if it works yet?

Thanks a lot for trying anyway ant1, its exactly what I need if I'm switching to ADSL :D I'll test it if I get a line installed any time soon :/

[-]wicket[/-] no.. wicked :) can u make this available for windows xp too? RasPPPoE does not work so lekker for me and stalls pc sometimes :(

It works on XP - I'm just not sure if it works for Vista. ;)

Hi ant1b0dy

This doesn't seem to work. Well not for me anyway.

I set it up as detailed in your post and the first problem I have is that routesentry does not pick the pppoe connection. It only picks it up after you've manually made the connection.

The second problem that I found is that once you have manually made the connection and routesentry has 'finished creating the routing table', I can't get to any websites and grabbit doesn't download.

I hope this all makes sense and assists you in some way.

Could you explain this in more detail?

Thanks for the feedback.

Once you've set up a single Vista "broadband" pppoe connection to connect with the "local" account, routesentry does not find that connection. It only finds the connection once the connection is active.

In other words, unless the single Vista "broadband" pppoe connection is 'live', it does not show in the drop down list.

Ok uhm if you are installing this on xp, be sure to reboot or flush existing routes/disconnect etc i noticed routing to lan card was giving issues/error codes till i rebooted. Other than that, my pc didn't stall :)

one feature, if i can request? Allow users to specify ip's they want to go thru a particular connection. y? because its useful for things like sending traffic thru a particular saix transparent proxy. u see if its on default routing, the saix transparent will be local and accessed via IS which results in blocking due to your ip being outside of the saix network etc Other reasons incl, rapidshare/megaupload/access to certain local servers via saix on purpose for esoteric reasons, latency etc

I've seriously been looking at RouteSentry this morning. Here's my situation:

I have a Router.
Both my PC and XBOX360 are connected to the Router.
I wanna get something to "filter" the traffic to my 360. What I mean by this is, when I log onto xbox live I need International Bandwidth BUT when I host a Gears of War game or play against a local opponent it must use my local bandwidth.

Will RouteSentry be able to do this for me? Thanks a million

The first bit happens transparently, so isn't an issue

1. you visit www.google.com
2. routing table causes this request to go out via saix because as far you know you're connecting to google.com on an international IP
3. saix proxy intercepts this request and completes it for you - transparently - as far as you know you're communicating directly with google.com

second scenario:
1. you visit www.saix.net
2. it goes out via IS because it's a local IP
3. IS proxy intercepts transparently - as far as you know you're communicating directly with saix.net

if, however, you're looking to specify a proxy explicitly, then yes, your scenario will come into play.

Thanx Antibody for this great ultility.
I've been using routesentry for awhile now in xp and can't live without it.
Not getting routesentry to work has been the only thing keeping me back from switching over to VISTA.

I will try the beta out this weekend. Will give feedback soon.

We are receiving many questions concerning Microsoft Vista® but due to built-in PPPoE driver in Vista® and major differences in the internal architecture a Version of RASPPPoE for Vista® would require a complete redesign. We apologize that currently there are no plans for a Vista® Version.
:(

31/03/2007 00:30:16 ERROR: The operation completed successfully, (216.104.199.0,255.255.255.0,192.168.1.254,2,9) 160

Im getting aot of those, just different addies.

Setup router with local only account, setup PPPoE broadband with International

If anyone can assist me with getting it to work, then I can try, else I guess XP is that option again :(

Thanks to everyone who helped test. It appears from what you've all told me that the routing code used by RouteSentry DOES NOT work at all under Vista. :(

I'll only be able to sort this out once I have a Vista PC available for my own use.

uhm no.. when u download from something like rapidshare or megaupload etc they prefer a satic proxy ip rather than the saix transparent one which basically forwards to whatever happens to be its choice. So if you make two requests to the same server x seconds after each other you might not get the same requesting ip/proxy.

Now usually a work around is to target the saix transparent proxy directly and viola it will work and rapidshare won't complain. But if u have a local IS account runing then when u attempt accessing the transparent proxy directly your originating ip is on the IS network i.e. you blocked off from accessing it which means its impossible to use rapidshare simultaneously with local account runing .. but i must say its one of those rare things to do which i have not used yet..

:)

I've tried rapidshare with the SAIX proxy set explicitly but haven't had any luck. :( If you have a proxy IP that works for you pleeeeeease let me know. :)

I'm not sure about IS proxy, but a friend hasn't had any luck on their IS dialup account either.
