I'm over in the UK now and wanted to use my E272 modem, but guess what, contrary to what the salesman in Green Acres PE told me, the damn thing is network locked - I found this out trying a Vodaphone SIM card in their shop - my Bandrich C100 thank goodness is unlocked.

How can I unlock this E272 ?

How did you test that it is locked?

I took the two modems (Bandrich C100 and E272) to the local Vodaphone shop and tried the shop assistants SIM in each modem.

Are they supposed to be unlocked? - if so I'll try it with another provider tomorrow.

What software did you use that told you it's locked? You probably would need the operator's software to manage the modem with their SIM in.

It's our policy NOT to lock modems and we've had no complaints yet of SA users using VC E272's on MTN.

Yup - true, its the supplied software thats 'locked' - only works with the vodacom sim.

Thanks for that guys !

I did try it with the Vodacom VMC software, so I'll give it another try with their connection software.

The E272 works on the UK Vodafone network.

I'm using the same software, just created a new "Vodafone" connection.

Change your topic heading perhaps ? Gave me a "oh no ! " when I first saw it..

How do you do this? Details please.

I started the VCM program with the new SIM installed and it automatically presented a pop-up stating that the existing Vodacom connection does not match the inserted SIM and would you like to create a new suitable connection, clicked OK and that was it.

The girl in the shop tested it with her SIM and claimed it would not work and that it was locked. I then bought a 30 day SIM package for GBP20 to use with my Bandrich C100, and when I got home/hotel and tried it in the E272 it responded as above - maybe the shop assistants English is lacking;)

One of the MOD's could change the subject in line with the confirmation that it is unlocked.

.

Thanks. UK shop assistants in general are hopeless
I didn't see a single smiling face in any big store on a recent trip. Not one.
Brings a tear to my eye when I think how wonderful our own shop assistant service levels are in comparison. I can forgive ineptness so long as people try to please:D

Guys,
I need help again.

I've now bought a "3" network PAYG card and it works in my HTC P3600i and the Bandrich C100 modem, but I just cant get it to work in the E272.

How did the guys go about using the E272 on MTN ?

Any tips on setting up the E272 for "3" ?

Did you try making a new profile with the 3 apn? I think its three.co.uk

I did and used that APN, but it just wont connect to it.

I've just re-installed the connection software, which on initialising insists you chose from a list of networks, but of course "3", and for that matter MTN are not listed.

Confirm if the "3" Prepaid SIM is enabled for Data? I know you probably did activate it for data, but just confirm it.

Try this app.

Yes, I've done that and tested it successfully in my Bandrich C100 and my HTC P3600i.
