I joined this forum only for this post as I am concerned for my younger boet.
He was shown how to get free internet with MTN via a proxy tunnel and HTTP. I have seen him doing it and it works costing him about 3c to log in and surfs all day for free. Is this legal?

Not possible... Unless of course there is an error on his provisioning. Is he prepaid or contract? secondly it wont be a manner in which he attempts to connect that will make the internet free, but rather an error on the network side........

Believe you me. It works. Found out it was purchased from this site from a member by a friend of his. A small programme that he got from his pal which he uses to get free internet on his Prepaid.
By the way, every time I try and go on this forum it won't accept my password and I have to renew it.

Tell your bro that the billing and the data monitoring are separate systems. i.e. Just because your airtime has not gone down doesn't mean MTN can't track it.

So if he does download a billion gigs and they decide to take him to court then chances are that they can reconstruct his data history from their records. Or the proxy figures out whats going on. Either way I'd suggest your boet should have his fun and then let it be asap.

I would also not recommend you for fscking around with a big company, they can sue and track u down.. Trust me you in big trouble, they are monitoring u at this present moment

He has not been using it for some time and has deleted the programme.
If this is possible then I hope MTN contacts me so I can show them the how it is done.

Then you'll only slam the nail into the coffin. Just stop using it and forget about it. If you don't hear from them in a month, you know you're safe. :D;)

Hey guys, well its now 2010 I'm currently making use of the internet via the proxy. I see the last post was in 2008, does this mean mtn didn't catch on or that its ok. Thinking if I must use it or not considering the legal aspects...its way nice to have the 'free' internet tho.
Any just basically wanted to add that its been going on since almost 2 years ago, its impossible that no one in mtn knows about it...or maybe they really don't..
I would really very much like to know what's going on, how its working, who is responsible for it and so on.....should anyone have this info it would be awesome.please fill me in.
Don't wanna end up in court pleading my case paying thousands of rands.

Any new info,pls.

Thx

They are waiting for as many people as possible to rack up huge amounts of traffic so they can slam them with legal action!

Seriously if it's been going this long there probably aren't that many people doing it, otherwise they would have stamped it out already (they have to pay for that usage you get for nothing), they will stop it sooner or later, they might take you to court and if they do you will be screwed. There's no way that it's "okay", if it was we would all know abnout it and be doing it.

Seeing as you are doing it and nobody else here is (at least not admitting to it), how can you expect the forum members here to be able to tell you how it works, what's going on and who's respnsible? You are doing it, you know more about it than any of us.

If you don't want to go to court don't do it, it's that easy.

Lol,...a couple of my friends are using it 2. N I don't download tons of MBs.
Perhaps this is a ploy by mtn to get more users on their network, who knows? I was on voda before, now I'm on mtn coz of this new perk. Other than RICA, how else can a prepaid sim be traced?
All these questions, no answers. Why not just give free internet to the whole nation, unleash the possibility of human potential and learning. Lol I can go on bout this. Point is,I'm trying to find out who's 'stolen ferrari' this mtn thing is before I give up a good ride.

Oh and thx for response and good advise, I'll lay low while trying to find out more as time go on

Aside from asking MTN I don't see how you'll get any more advice. :p

If it was a perk to get people on the network, surely they would advertise it?

They could triangulate the SIMs position by taking note of which cell towers it connects to.

I started this thread years ago when I was "Oopsie"
I gave MTN the procedure on how it is done. Got no reply.
So they must allow it, it seems because peeps are still doing it.
