Neotel NeoFlex tested

Nice to see that they're responding so quickly to public concerns. Hopefully the pricing will be on that same path

During business hours nogal ;)

Good results and sound promising.
The battery certainly is a nifty feature.

Usual criteria: Pricing and coverage ;)

I'd love to see what the data only packages are going to be like.
Also - really ASLO - I hope there is not going to be any form of contract on a data only service.
Please! For heaven's sake!
I would buy the device for cash and just want data on a month to month basis.
As it is a CDMA router, locked on the network, I can't see this being a problem.

An ethernet router, with WiFi,, a data-only package with no contractual obligation would suit the needs of many people.

So please Neotel, don't screw this round up!
There are plenty of us willing to support.
Let us do that and not have to jump through all the hoops and red tape.
Make it affordable, make it easy to purchase and you'll have customers in droves.
Just work on that coverage for us please ;) :)

I used the device the whole day and apart from a few slow periods the service performed well. I am used to DSL 4 Mbps and the user experience is not too much different. Downloads came down fast and torrents were no problem (tested on some legal content of course ;) ).

Initially the service will only be available on contract, but Neotel is working on a prepaid model. The advantage of the Neotel contract is that it is really a best of both worlds contract: You can cancel at any time and then only have to pay for the device. So there is no real advantage of paying for the device up-front.

Thanks for the feedback rpm.

It's just the feel of... being locked into a contract which is not appealing.
I for one, don't want to feel that I'm locked into anything.
It only serves to bring back bad memories of past contractual offerings. (Not specifically from Neotel, as I've never had the pleasure of doing business with them ;) - that's at you Neotel ;) ;) :nudge: nudge:
Neotel should be our "Liberator/Messiah" I just feel that doing it on outdated, non-innovative 2 year business models is well... dated ;)

Something to consider is:
What about consumers that are currently on NeoConnect Prime or Lite?
They've got a bundled service at the moment.
What if they feel they only need the data, but are now contractually hooked into their current deal?
One wonders if Neotel will allow current customers to migrate to a data only option...
Migration in the local telecoms arena should be used very sparingly, as operators tend to charge for the pleasures of it.
So many avenues for jubilation and discord.

Anyway - lets wait until they release some pricing.
I hope they do it before the conference so that delegates could throw a few questions at them ;) *perhaps I shouldn't have said that :p :D*

Bring the coverage and don't shape my downloads and I'm yours forever Neotel :D

Just to touch on my thoughts surrounding migration, this offering and current products, like NeoConnect Prime or Lite.

I hope they're looking at new handsets at least, something which actually resembles portable.
It would be nice to have your CDMA Ethernet router on one side and a nice portable handset on the other.

Wow this is fantastic !! Wasn't that the news everyone had been waiting for :))

Hmm now I just hope us Neo-Connect users can migrate with little fuss and hassles

Well I like to hear the good news, however isn't this the package that'll have the cap? No uncapped? If so, I'd rather go with the previous as I'm willing to pay for uncapped.

The other cool thing with prepaid ADSL and 3G is that you can spend whatever you can afford for the month. Bonus time at the end of the year? Load R1000 worth of data for the month. Car needing repairs, new tires and the TV breaks? Load R200 for the month and turn images off in the browser.

Wow... You sure get your car fixed, tv repaired and new tyres from an awesome shop :P Only R800 for all of that... I cant even buy 2 tyres :D

Nice to see Neotel, I also see they are very actively digging up Stellenbosch area these days putting in fibre....

@ RPM. Wish you would take them up on their no uncapped on RevA stance. At the moment Im sharing a modem and connecting my flat with about 5 pcs to the one modem through a server I setup.
The stated reason Ive had personally from neotel as to why they wont release the product on the uncapped offering is that then ppl will share their connections......which any person with a bit of effort can anyways do already.

Please please please please rpm. It seems you have a bit of a special contact with them. Champion this for us and I will forever ever and ever sing this site's praise...........even more than I do at the moment :)
