As has been heralded for quite some time now alongside the Tube 5800, the much awaited N-series touchscreen will be announced today.

http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/291283-Nokia-E90-here

From the previously leaked roadmaps for N-series devices http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=145184 this new touchscreen phone from the worlds leading mobile handset maker will most likely be the model codenamed Ivalo.

Spec-list should include :
  • 3.5-inch wide touchscreen,
  • 640x360 pixels resolution
  • Full QWERTY Keyboard
  • 32GB onboard storage (with microSD slot)
  • GPS and A-GPS module
  • FM transmitter and receiver
  • 5MP camera with DVD quality video recorder
  • WiFi
  • TV-out
  • Bluetooth (fully functional)
  • 117.2 x 55.3 x 15.9 mm and weighs 150 g

So if the 5800 is a bit too cheap for you (despite eclipsing the ever-so-popular iPhone) then perhaps the N97 is just the phone for you.

Hopefully this one will be available just in time for my next upgrade.:D

Yes, I listed it like that cause you DON'T get that on a iPhone.

The 5800 was made as a 1up on the iPhone (Nokia admitted to that) and it will be priced very aggressively (R3000).

This N-series version is way over the top of any other touch or qwerty phone so it will cost a lot. Maybe R10k or maybe even more.

Very nice, but why N-series? I prefer the E-series, and this phone looks like it should have been an E-series right?

I just hope its fast! Just the thought of a touchscreen symbian phone slowness irritates me:p

I think Nokia should start a new Series of phones. This one surely combines the E- and N-Series into one device.

very nice!!! Impossible to keep up...
Impossible to keep up indeed - especially for Apple :p

E-series is for business and weak camera performance. This phone is a multimedia powerhouse so it does not fit the dull and boring E-series line up. Check the video - it is real fast.

nice features, but FAR to bulky..... !!!!!! :(
Actually no - it is is almost a centimeter narrower than the iPhone, less than 2mm taller (so it is about the same height) and it is only 4mm thicker due to its more powerful battery, better camera, working bluetooth, better screen and other advanced features.

To sum up, it is in general smaller than an iPhone.

Looks very impressive, but big.
Does it come with a trolley?
As stated, it is smaller than an iPhone.

No, E-series will die out eventually.

To bad it has duel led. Lance will complain about that one

It might be smaller but thicker than an Iphone. but that does not make it less bulky !!!!

The thing is like a brick compared to most phones, technology is meant to get smaller, not bigger .......

not to mention where are the benchmarks, i bet with all that memory it is slow too. I want to see benchmarks of when memory space is quite low...

It is almost a full centimeter more narrow than the iPhone, yet only 3.6mm thicker. That means it is only a third thicker than the iPhone is wider - does that make it a brick ? By all means if you want to call it a brick be my guest - just remember to call the iPhone a wide brick then.

Also, speaking of dimensions on a brick, it is interesting to note that while both "bricks" have 3.5" screens the N97 packs 230,400 pixels into that space compared to the iPhone with only 153,600 pixels (much more coarse pixels).

Another thing to note about the Nokia "brick" is that is can transform into a computer with full qwerty keyboard (E90 "brick" does that to). Now, when typing on that keyboard I am sure you will forget about the extra 3.6mm thickness :D

Jealous much?

I want ... I want ... I want ...

I see they are only looking to launch June 2009 ... so SA may get them in 2010. They also say that it will cost about the same as the N96 was on launch ... but then again ... an iPhone was only to cost US$199-00 ... :-\
