Other - New news server available: A trial news server (news2.saix.net) has been made available to all SAIX ADSL and dial-up users. This server will have all the functionality of news.saix.net, but as it is being implemented as a test service, no help desk support will be available for the duration of the trial. The service will be available until 31 January 2009.

*shrug* No idea. Just saw it in my Google Reader this morning so thought I'd share. Last I heard, the news.saix.net one was packed.

Yes, packed, that it is.
But I'm guessing with what happened to Newshost a while back that they'd rather be happy with the server being packed and slow and whatever.

But putting out another one... that's like a slap in the face of the people who took on NH and the rest.

Wow, this is cool news! Thanks to those who organised this for us! Maybe everybody can get a piece of the action now!

I would assume so... but I am also having trouble getting a connection.

Edit: Hmmm... maybe it is just being shaped... it is still business hours after all.

I hear that this server has 2 to 3 times the capacity... and that it will eventually be load balanced with the old Server.

It is a trial though... so expect a few errors until they iron out all the bugs.

Just tried downloading some stuff and the speeds terible. Also having problems connecting to the server...

It might be a new server but its just as crappy as the old server

It took 20 minutes to download 1.5MB

SAIX news servers are shaped during business hours... as I mentioned in my post... and as is common knowledge. :rolleyes:
 
I just downloaded something from this news server that I got off Newshost (the NZB). It must have been uncached as it came in around 160 Kbps. I would be interested to see what the cached speeds are.

Edit: By the way... BF and NH seem to be offline again at the moment.

Also wanna test that, unless i am i dunno

old news addy was getting 10KB/s

after trying the new one 250- 300KB/s on 2 threads :D

Also it connected as fast as my Newshosting account :D

On the old saix news server there was never a problem with speeds for me, just the time it took to connect.

Same here but if it connects the moment you open your NS program and it downloads over 100KB/s , that is simply marvelous .

Honestly even 39 constantly is better then what we otherwise used to get, takes abit longer but eventually finishes :).

As soon as the price is cut, you will want the 8MB line and you will tel us 800KB/s is your line limit ;).
