iPhone 3G S on its way

"we think people will love the incredible new features including autofocus camera, video recording and the freedom of voice control

All features I had in my nokia back in 1877.

Seriously, incredible, new

More like, mundane, finally.

My phone of choice is the HTC Touch HD.

nicely said...my sentiments exactly...
btw my friend is in line for a new phone and considering the touch HD. why would u recommend that one?

The specifications are outdated. Most other smartphones from HTC and Samsung can already do most of what is "new" and they have been on the market for more some time (e.g. Omnia, Omnia HD, Diamond 1 + 2, HD, etc). Apple is simply catching up. I think the iphone is a temporary fashion statement. Thats why it never really took off in most countries outside the US. Even Nokia matches all these specifications on cheaper a mid-range phones (the 5800), and it costs half of what the cheapest iphone cost! Apple really disappointed with this show.

2 months till I get mine. Main reasons for getting it:

1. 4" screen
2. Dedicated graphics chip for interface (no sluggish WM interface here)
3. Windows platform (allows you to do anything)
4. 4" screen

Lastly, because its so pretty :)

Will anybody get an iPhone 3GS when it launches locally based on what you've seen? The big killer for me is not being able to multitask - so IM will be buggy at best.

Windows is the primary reason to avoid that smartphone AFAIK.

I'm interested in this for The Snappy. My 1G iPhone is still faster than the WM phones I've used, but loading web pages and starting some apps still feels too sluggish. Having TomTom finally is fantastic too. There's now very little features reasons to stay with other phones, while having all the polish of the iPhone.

Take tethering for example. With my WM I find it a pain to walk up to where it's charging, click Start -> Internet Sharing -> Choose Bluetooth PAN -> Connect, then go back to my laptop and join the network.

iPhone does it properly, just join the Bluetooth PAN network and the phone automatically wakes up and goes into sharing mode. Couldn't be easier. You've still got security because it only allows connections from paired devices.

I will get the new iPhone3GS as soon as I can. I have the 1st gen one and wouldnt change it for any other phone. I've had the Omnia, Nokia and SE Xperia.... they dont compare. Apple new iPhone has the features that other phones had but Apple perfects them.

The problem is that people look at the features of the iPhone and say "well my phone has that feature" but forgetting that the same feature works best or is improved on the iPhone. Just like running a Mac. You can run MS Office on Windows and on a Mac, but on a Mac it's so much better.

You will only know what its like when you use it.

Absolutely. I've owned just about every version of Nokia S60/S80 and SE UIQ, as well as WM devices, and the only phone where I haven't felt a bit disappointed by the phone after a few months has been my iPhone. The other ones all come with features that show so much promise, but drop the ball in terms of execution. iPhone may not promise as much in terms of features but it executes those ones it does fantastically. And now it has all the features too.

I agree with the general sentiment, but Office 2007 for Windows spanks Office 2008 for Mac hands down ;) Office for Windows is so much faster (try opening a Sahara pricelist Excel spreadsheet in both for a nice test), and the ribbon is the best thing to come out of Redmond in 6 years.

Yeah you are right, Office 2007 beats Office 2008 for the Mac hands down IN SPEED ONLY.

Anyway before this turns into a WIN vs OSX thread, I think the iPhone3GS is really going to make those anti-iPhone people rethink or take a second look.

BTW - what the hell does the S stand for?

Yep, and now you can copy & paste.

Still no video calling though.

Would be interesting to see some network stats on how many people actually make video calls. I know I didn't on my 6630.. or my N80... or my TyTN... or my 6120 classic... but maybe that's just me.

Maybe there's could be a poll, or there already is one somewhere on this forum "Do you ever video call?" "Once, just to see it work" "Occasionally when I want to show where I am" "Regularly" "Never"
