Yeah, because we all know Apple only use their own ideas right? Maybe Apple could take a page from Nokia and SonyEricsson's books and copy proper multitasking.

Also, it's not so much about who comes up with the idea as much as it is who can actually deliver it properly...

What exactly is wrong with Symbian? Have you even used a newer model Nokia S60 phone?

I have. And, admittedly, it's not all bad. BUT, it's nowhere near as well polished as the iPhone. Period.

I've also written applications for Symbian and iPhone. There is no comparison even at that level!

The iPhone has been available for how long now? Think it's 2 years. And how many iPhones have been sold? Can ANY nokia, samsung, sonyericsson or motorola phone compare? Maybe the motorola RAZR, that was a revolution.

That's subjective - perfect for you might not be perfect for anyone else.

Like all of Apples computers the iPhone gets its strength from great hardware coupled with a great OS. And to top it all off the new OS is going to give the current 3G owners what is essentially a new phone. For free.

Personally I'm focusing on that rather than any of yesterdays shortcoming that have been addressed.

Essentially 2 years ago Apple launched a phone that was better is a whole lot of things but just didn't do some things that people wanted.

Then they upgraded the hardware and added a whole lot off features.

And still they were missing some key features.

Now they have fixed the hardware and done all the features, what next.

I would say that Apple are busy on the next generation iPhone that will blow the current generation out of the water.

i have no idea how they will do that but I would never put it past them.

Mate, not sure where that comes from but nobody said they perfected copy, paste or MMS?

Nevertheless, MMS is an unreliable technology. It's great when it works and crappy when it doesn't. But with email, who needs it?

Let's hope for 3rd party application multitasking support, better integration with contact lists and online services like IM's and Facebook etc. They'll have to compete with the Palm Pre for now (IF the Palm Pre shows itself as a viable contender in the months to come, and I have a feeling it will)... I'm not even going to look at the other phone vendors as long as they don't completely overhaul the OS (and not just addons and upgrades like on Symbian and WinMo)

You'll notice that the vast majority of those who so 'fiercely' comment on the iPhone do not actually own one nor have they used one for any period longer than a few minutes, if at all.

As I've often posted before, in an ideal world, would it not be great if people actually only posted on phones they've used themselves for at least a few weeks? Including reviewers.

But unfortunately we'll always have those with us who are so fanatical about a brand that all reason goes out the window.

Are you suggesting that Vodacom will let us take one home and test it before buying. At the moment, most Vodacom shops won't even let you breath on a phone. They give you a dummy to play with and then won't even let that out of their sight. The first time you get to "use one" is when you buy it.

Even then, if a ~R8000+ newly announced phone only has one camera, of only 3Megapixel, how much testing do we need to do to have an opinion?

That's not really a fair comparison. To run snow leopard in the first place implies that you would have had to buy a Mac at the horribly inflated prices that the hardware goes for.

Windows will run on any combination of hardware, which makes the development of the OS more tricky.

Given that crime is an issue in SA I'm surprized you blame the shops for only giving you a dummy or let it out of their sight? You can hardly blame the shop or the network for that?

...so even with the $599 (16 GB) it is subject to a 2 year agreement with AT&T...

It is fair considering that for 7 you need new hardware it still does not perform that great on 3 year old hardware, snowleopard will support all intel macs with 1GB of memory, very good value.

I bought a 'Vista capable' notebook about a year ago and let me tell you it was far, far away from 'capable'.
Capable of hanging like a set of blue nuts, yes.
Capable of estimating that to copy a file of a few hundred megs over a network would take more days than ten average human lifetimes back to back, yes.
...the list is endless and well covered all over the internet as well as this forum and (I can only assume) written in **** on the walls of mental aylum toilet stalls the world over (from users losing their minds.. get it?)

Sure, but the price of memory is hardly worth mentioning these days. 7 is made for netbooks, though admittedly I'm not sure what it's minimum specs are.
For what it's worth, I've been running 7 in a VM for a while and it feels like it outperforms my host OS, which is XP.

As per your initial post the rest of the world doesnt pay SA's heavily inflated prices for Apple products.

I wonder if M$oft is now going to respond by offering W7 for a similar amount considering the Vista fiasco.
