Free iBurst data bundles to ‘affected users’

So affected people who are not iBubble subscribers anymore, and want nothing to do with the company will do what exactly with their free data bundles?

ROFLMAO, like a drug dealer offering a recovering addict some more drugs to make up for all the pain the druggie suffered...

When ppl drop the ibust habit, they don't turn back.

Many of these ex-subscribers will hopefully still have their iBurst modems, so we can re-load data for them to use as a small token for them receiving a disturbing SMS out of the blue.

Appoligies are rare and are respected. Well done.

nice to hear of a company apologizing in this manner. Mad respect!

If a person has been listed at transunion or experion their credit score has already been affected. What if those people were busy with a serious financial decision at that time and they were declined because of the listing, how will iburst compensate them and rectify the problem, I won't accept a data bundle as an apology.

Come to think of it maybe I should check if I was listed .....:(

"While this error was, for the most part, the fault of the debt collection agency and not the iBurst billing department, this problem is likely to further damage the broadband providers’ already shaky reputation regarding billing and accounts"

and how exactly do u separate the debt collecting AGENCY from the people they are agents for? a bad attempt at spin if u ask me.

v3g: you have inherited a fairly crappy company. i'm an ex-ibust subscriber and not surprised at this story. there is clients that i had recommended ibust to, except they took contracts and when you guys decide to play "trial and error" on their account, i get the flak. the rot runs at the core of that organization, and good luck with your "undo" mission...

I received the text message from ITC last week and I was pretty p1ssed off. May your souls burn in hell for eternity!

Tested and down here as well...

On Topic: It is refreshing to see an apology from a company and even some compensation for the inconvenience.

thanks rpm

it should be well-known that i am no friend of iBurst but i believe they should be applauded for making an effort to deal with their issues and given some breathing space to make changes

As was mentioned earlier, how are they going to apologise if you were in the process of buying a car and you get turned down for finance because you were listed with ITC at the time the bank checked? oh whoop de frikken doo. I got 1 GB of free data but i cant get a new car???? yeah thats gonna make me feel a whole lot better.

I wasnt affected, but I will say this, If it was me I would be consulting my lawyer to find out what I could do. In SA we dont have punitive damages but I can quantify my loss so I can sue for that amount.

This is an important point. Moreover, what if people have been blacklisted by the 1st debt collector, because of past iBurst billing errors, and these people do not have the nous or wherewithal to appeal.

I should also check my credit status. I live on the lower-middleclass breadline and I can't afford credit, so haven't had reason to worry about credit status, so far.

I hope I'm not blacklisted. Eek. Imagine I am, though; imagine it all goes back to 2006, 2007, to Select Online handling iBurst accounts...

While Transunion might be the entity that contacted ex-iBurst customers, I suspect the GI-GO principle applies here, IOW iBurst SA's Accounts Department supplied Transunion with garbage data, which resulted in garbage calls going out to ex-IBurst customers.

Jannie, are you sure that you don't need any industrial steel-tipped boots for kicking the arses of those in the Accounts Department?

I'm sure ex-iBurst customers will find the apology to be a welcome about-turn from the way that iBurst SA has been known to operate in the past, clearly you are steering the company in a better direction :).

BTW, how much does it cost to call an 0877 number from the various networks?

I can confirm that no-one got listed anywhere because of this wrong SMS that went out.

The SMS that did go out incorrectly to the people with a zero-value account, was just that; An notification SMS. The error was quickly detected (I'm sure a number of those called the call desk prompto!) and those accounts were closed again and an apology SMS and mail sent out.
