15 Mbps Wireless DSL service from iBurst

i hope they have the network to back it up. no point offering 99mbps if your network can barely switch 1mbit properly without degradation.

15 Mbps service with a 160 GB cap - nice!

Will get full pricing soon and do a comparison with high end ADSL services...

I am not sure I would use it as a primary connection (especially if you do hosting) - but as fall over it should be way better than using 3g. And of course if you have to be relatively mobile (aka virtual office) this can be awesome.

They can't even provide a stable wireless service at 1Mbps, so not sure how they are going to do it at 15Mbps.

Anyway, anyone know what protocol they are going to use to provision it? No mention made in the article. I would have assumed Wimax, but they don't say.

has that ever stopped any telco related company of punting their awesomeness :D

nonetheless 15mbs is nice, but i would think at that pricing 160gig minimum and upwards...

Great product, but what part of line does ibust not understand?

DSL = Digital Subscriber Line. WTF is a wireless line?

Another SME offering.

But don't worry, the consumer offerings with tripple play convergence is imminent guys.

Overall I think this is really positive and a step in the right direction. While it may be from iBurst and the name might not be suitable to the more tech savvy, this is certainly a promising product offering. This will only serve to increase competition and drive improved product offerings from other providers.

I find it interesting that they say the contention ratio is 10:1. Given the nature of wireless services there is likely to be an "imposed" contention ratio on the wireless base station. For example, assuming there are 10 people connecting to one 15mbps basestation, the contention ratio becomes approximately 20:1. Just a thought....

How can you call a wireless system DSL? As far as I'm concerned DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) was a technology invented to utilise unused frequencies on old copper cables!

I'm posting this anyway, but I just read the rest of the posts and people are saying the same thing! Man, people these days! How can you trust a company to deliver a service when they don't even know what they're delivering?!!!

Was checking out the iWorst & iWorst Business websites to find out more info about this new service, but couldn't find anything.

Then I stumbled onto this - http://www.iburst.co.za/default.aspx?link=packages_adsl_fromhome

R89 per GB for shaped ADSL bandwdith? Ridiculous! Atrocious!

Everyone else is selling shaped bandwidth for between R40 and R60 per GB. And if you take into account Afrihost's special of R29 per GB, their prices are even worse.

iWorst are selling R29 per GB for local only? I pay R29 per GB with Afrihost for shaped!

I see iWorst are not shy to screw their customers on all fronts. There can be no excuse for (re-)selling ADSL bandwidth at R89 per GB for shaped, when everyone else is (re-)selling it closer to R50 per GB.

iBurst - disgusting and disgraceful. Jannie - you're a disappointment so far, but we hope for better in the future.

R10 000 odd for 160GB @ 15Mbps = +- R62.50 per GB

Not bad, but considering you can get 4 Mbps DSL uncapped for R3-4k, you really need the upload speed to justify this extra cost.
