Guys, I don't know if I am just lucky or what, after battling all day to make a VM connection, I manually selected Vodacom on my 6680 and now, with my Virgin simcard, I am surfing on the Vodacom 3G network!

The speeds are weird - I started a multithreaded download, it starts off with like 50kByte/sec and then seems to slow down to about 30 kByte/sec which corresponds to the max. speed I am supposed to get if I had been on VM EDGE.

Please test and report here!

EDIT: No, this connection is flying, I am downloading 4 Youtube videos at the same time, I am getting maximum here, 384 kbits/sec!

I can't test that for myself, as I only have GPRS, but it's not supposed to be possible. Then again, free GPRS isn't supposed to be possible either, and I'm enjoying mine right about now - both my VM and Vodacom VLive! GPRS are free :D

Nope, no such luck here.

Got kicked back to GSM as usual (on N70). And it's SLOOOOOOOOOW.

I have disconnected and reconnected to be sure. Definitly 3G on my side!
I have opened my phone to visually confirm my VM sim is definitly connected to Vodacom 3G! :D

If you figure it out please, please, PLEASE let us know.

yeah... Happened to me once... and never again... now that you've mentioned it I"ll test it again

What settings did you change on your phone? I have a Nokia N80 (pos) and trying to figure out stuff like this is nigh impossible for the ordinary man in the street - like me.

Ajax, do you ever post on the Prodigits wap and mobile forum? Someone there posted that he was picking up a 3G signal while roaming on the Vodacom network with VM.

I just selected Vodacom under manual network settings. My phone was still on dual mode too. I changed it later to only use 3G. Maybe try that first before doing the manual network selection.

I suspect my "luck" has something to do with MNP. Maybe the system got confused somehow with my specific VM number.

Send me the link, will you?

Ajax, you have to complete the free registration on the prodigits.co.uk WAP portal before you can view it, I think, as the links contains a unique session ID key.

You have to go to http://twilightwap.com/prodigits/ and register there, then log in, go to Forums>WAP & Mobile>Free Virgin WAP SA and then go to page 43 (which is currently the last page)

Just don't tell them you were directed there from the MyADSL forum, since they kind of developed a grudge against it. The free vlive! abusers believe we cost them their full-time free GPRS.

Oh, I forgot to mention - you'll need a WAP browser or Opera Browser to view the prodigits forum.

in fact, pro has been converted to x-html, so any web browser will be able to access, but i think registration is exclusive to mobile phones

It's been a long time since I've tried to access Pro from any browser other than Opera, but I see Sony 3G is right, sorry.

How are you using Virgin right now when it has been down since early yesterday (confirmed with VM)??
We'll talk about the 'free' part of your claims later....

Well I've personally been using Virgin most of today and its been working perfectly.

If only my VM sim card wasnt blocked :(:(:( any idea how to unblock one of these??? I havent used it for a long time

I've been using vdata all day. Not only is it working and free, but it's surprisingly fast. Probably because half the country is offline :D Where are you located? Maybe it's a local thing?

I am also getting fullspeed 3G [feels like HSDPA] on virgin via Vodacom

I'm using my 3G Datacard with the Vodafone Dash, i've set up a 3G-only profile with the vdata APN . The software aquires the Vodacom network and it shows "Vodacom (Roaming)" .
