Router Battery Backup

Any cheaper units?
why not use existing switches and pop this on solar battery

then limitation small backup batteries in ups does not come into play ie 78wh means nothing if you power 4 20w devices ie dead after an hour

This is mine, i have replaced the batteries
Thank you so much for this image, appreciate it. I need the value of the unmarked black sms capacitor or whatever that is as mine was broken in half , can you assist me with that? I don't know much about electronics and I assume the reason for my battery pack flashing red is that unless something else is the problem then I am stuck.Thank you in advance

Hi, i can not see any markings on the sms capacitor, even with a magnifying glass

Is there a marking somewhere next to it C or R or L or D?

One will have to use a multimeter to check it.

Thank you for taking the time to respond, greatly appreciate it. I magnified it as well and was unable to see any markings however on the board itself, it is marked with the letter L if this helps at all. Again I am really grateful for your assistance. Thank You

L should be an inductor. It probably split because it overheated, so even if you could replace it, there is probably another fault that caused the overheating

Correct yes.

So it would not be difficult to get it or replace it. The question remains to why it popped honestly it could be anything or nothing. One needs to replace it and see what happens. If it works then your device is probably fine.

After about two years my Ellies Power bank cube mini died. :cautious:

// rant on
Just another expense thanks to our useless government.
Now I have to pay taxes once again for a service they should be providing.
// rant off

Time to get a replacement.

Are there any recommendations for a UPS that will easily last about 8 hours with two 12v devices plugged in?

depends what the devices draw
My router draws 300mA, so 2 would 600mA, at 12V about 60Wh over 8 hours, which would need about 6 18650 3000mAh batteries

I have no idea what my power draw is.
I also don't have something to measure the draw.
I have an ONT and an ASUS router for which I disabled the lights.

I know both devices use a 12v power adapter and that's about it.

Here is a link for the product I had but I don't want to go this route again because I see there are bad reviews for it now and mine also failed.

Is that cube 'dead' or does it just not last as long?
It seems like quite a high rating (98Wh)

It looks like it does not get any power.
It has lights on the back which lights up when you plug it into the mains but it's just dead.
The batteries in it are still very good.

It's also not easy to open up. I will do so in time perhaps I can repair it or just salvage the batteries.

I'm using a Gizzu 100W unit to power my ONT, AX router, 5 port GBe switch and a tiny Atom x5-Z8350 PC running Windows 11 - it never dropped below 75% with the usual 2 hours cuts. The small PC is rated at 5v/4a input, so I am running it off a 12v/5a output with a buck regulator.

Fibre:Just made a box which switch the Fibre Box 12V power supply & Router 12V power supply with two change over switches for each to a small 12 lead acid sealed battery for wife phone to work & tel when power is off, its cheap*R245 and seems to work well. Its not easy getting the plugs.

I am afraid your analyses is spot on. As far as I ca- recall, it has acted lime this before (flashing green and then red without charging completely) and then for a brief while went back to normal operation and once this red light flashing returned have I decided to open it up rto visually inspect and discovered the broken/missin-g component. After replacing the component with another inductor the unit switches on and proceeds to have the same issue as mentioned. So its quite obvious the fault is something else,

Mine lasts without problems, since I got it in 2021. Have it connected to a Mikrotik router. I have seperate mini UPSes per each device. It's overkill but it seems to work. I once left it running disconnected for 2-3 days and it still ran, ran almost empty, thankfully I noticed that it had been left unplugged.

On the ONT I have a Vizia 57 Wh unit.
I have this Ellies Cube for the Mikrotik.
And on another router I have a Titan Elecstor 75 Wh unit. That one shows my router only takes 3-4 Watts.
