Hey guys,

I'm trying to decide which 1 Meg uncapped offering I should go for and would like to compare speeds that people are getting for 1 meg. Was thinking it could be measured by two things: Speednet to somewhere in Europe and Torrent/news speed.

Off Peak:

Torrent Download Speed: 100KB/s
HTML Download Speed: 94 KB/s

Peak:

Torrent Download Speed: 105 KB/s
HTML download: 105 KB/s

I am currently using a Openweb Gold trail account, so I am very interested in seeing your guys results to help me decide.

Hey Nicko

So you say ur trying out the 1meg openweb gold. How is the speed if u download something from your web browser? I'm also interested in finding out how these 1meg packages perform since I sometimes get some stuff from rapidshare

Just download something off the net and was averaging about 94 KBps, you gotta remember this is off peak. I will post my results again, tomorrow morning.

Download speed was 99 KB/s when I got home (17:00), gone to 106 now. From ftp and http.

Just don't know what's up with the upload speed

The upload speed doesn't matter mutch unless u running some kind of server/service which is not recommended.

To put it into perspective my upload on a 4MB unshaped/uncapped is between 0.20 - 0.36 (roughly).

The reason is that if you get a upload of say 2mbps or higher you can easily cancel that diginet/fibre line and run everything on your ADSL. This might not be true for the big corporates but allot of SME's would trade the cost for the lack of any guarantees on the ADSL network in a heartbeat.

Yes, fair enough, but the line router is syncing at 512k upload. SME's should get business uncapped surely, rather than diginet?

Not unless they require an SLA which I don't think any ADSL account offers. Leased lines are generally far more stable than any ADSL line, which is why they cost so damn much.

Exactly. Which is why I said small businesses don't normally get them. :D

They don't need SLA's and/or can't afford it, so they use business ADSL instead. No SLA but generally better service levels, supposedly.

Could people who have Mweb 1 meg in particular provide your speeds, because I think its down to Openweb vs Mweb for me.

Would also like to see the shaped 1mb speeds on Mweb, morning and prime time.

Well atm I am very impressed with Openwebs uncapped account offerings. Averaging 105 KBps from news server and this is during peak, will update with speed test in a bit.

HTML download: 105 KBps

Nicko, Gimaru - Mweb speeds on 1mb sucks during the day on http and youtube, today my youtube streams on 360p and only sometimes buffer. From i think 01:00 am till round about 08:00 all is going full speed at 107kb, then it goes down to between 20-30 sometimes lower sometimes faster on anything i download.

Is that normal uncapped or the Gold uncapped if I may ask?

I'm also trying to decide between Openweb and Mweb uncapped 1mb..

Mine is post #8, but it was at 16:48. I'll try do a test tomorrow afternoon, I leave work early. But it really wouldn't be much different though as my download manager shows pretty constant speeds, between 100-106K throughout the day.

That's gold uncapped. In any event for R150 more than Mweb's uncapped, it's a better choice IMO if you're a heavy downloader. Full speed pretty much most of the time, unlike Mweb's full speed between 1am and 7am.
