To be fair to telscum, there are literally thousands of lines that need to be upgraded. But they should've damn hired some people to make it go faster. My contact on the inside (sounds like telscum is a secret org) informs me that my line will be installed on friday and will be installed as 384 even though i ordered 192. And not on the date the stupid adsl help line gave me.

Gangstarr that is the information I have gathered. Perhaps you would care to comment, unoffically of course?

neva read what the link was but what i think u want to know is this.
if your exchange cant support the upgrade it will not be upgraded
what telkom would do is this: they will try and sync u as close to 384 as possible.
so u might end up with anything between 192 and 384 ( u might even just have 192 lol)
[edit] off the record :p [/edit]

Gangstarr - Yeah we know about that, what we want to know is has telkom started the upgrading? Is it being done in 'blocks'? When will it be complete? What about these customers who Telkom tells they have upgraded them, yet they remain on 192k? Is their story related to what you say above?

Thanks Grimreeper - all this information helps us to put together a bigger picture of what exactly is going on, since Telkom isn't exactly clear and forthcoming with the information.

Please can other 192k users report on their status and their interaction with Telkom on this issue.

I'm still on 192k... Router still sync's at 320, speed test shows a downward speed of 166kbits/sec...

I had no interaction with telkom at all, because I'm pretty sure that if I have to interact with the again, I would suffer from multiple heart attacks and pop a few
veins in my forehead all at once. :D

i don't care really, thats how much i care

ok, guys.
so the prices are going down, finally
and i'm still looking around for the best price for value,
and telkom has the line rental thingy, plus your 3 gigs or whateva you want.
i reckon, telkom384 costs R163/gig is that not a realist pricing, rather to include the line rental into the price per gig?
i'm stuborn, and will wait until it cost R63/gig whichi think is fair,
as long as i can rent a video for R9, why even think about downloading it, when it costs this much?

things are going forward, great, but dsl is still no broadband...

when i can get 24Mbps uncapped for R300 a month i'll consider...
thats what i feel is a fair price, what do you think?

I'm on 192k, haven't been upgraded, but:

Your line speed is approximately 55 Kbps or 6.7 kBytes/sec

I remember getting speeds like this last year, when i was on DIAL UP.

I don't see this as much of an upgrade?

---UPDATE---

Your line speed is approximately 37.7 Kbps or 4.6 kBytes/sec

I am now paying R245 a month for the equivalent to always-on dialup

No upgrade yet for me either. According to my modem I'm running 320kbps downstream and 192kbps upstream. Is plugging out the modems power and plugging it back in again the same as restarting or should I rather do it via the modem itself?

Thanks gangstarr - any information on this issue is appreciated. It's a pretty hot topic at the moment, and it will no doubt save Telkom a lot of time and effort if they would just be forthcoming about the situation. Your efforts are appreciated.
