With a statement like that, Telkom will do it of course! So you want 6 GB by next year? We will bring out a package that says 3GB the first year and the next year charge you without choice accordingly for the 2x 3GB price. That is how Telkom think. :D

Silly...Remember the lady in Sweden with her 40 Gigabits per second connection? I think she really needs to worry about her PC's HDD speeds:-)

And the worst is, she uses the equipment to dry her washing...
 
It doesn't matter if you had a 1gbps link, cause if you were to browse SA site, it would still be dead slow. :(

Surely, yes. However the benefits of such a connection are in being able
to DL mosaic censored pr0n.

1GBps to where exactly? To your ISP and the sites it hosts (assuming they're not just on 100mb NICs)? I don't know of all that many sites whose bandwidth provider offer them 1GBps upstream (most are on shared 100meg pipes) and I certainly don't know of many sites which would be able to sustain multiple connections at 1GBps.

This is just a media fad. I remember a similar scenario when Singtel offered that "Big Green Pipe" 100mbit residential. It ended up being 100mbit to their "trusted partners" (i.e. anyone hosted in the Singtel datacenter) and like 12mbit to the rest of the world.

Also, just because you have 1GBps throughput, doesn't mean pages will load "instantly". You can have "the broadest band" in the world (quite literally), but you will still have to wait for the latency of the connection (which, unless they've found a new way to break the speed of light in fibre, is not going to improve any more than what you have currently) and the turn-around time of the server before your uber-cool residential line even sees a kilobit of throughput.

Edit: And again, whilst your own PC and residential connection might handle 128MB/s "with a smile", there are very few servers who would be able to offer you that, yet alone offer you and the other 500 people/second accessing your site.

P2P. If everyone is on 1Gbps then everything goes faster, ne?

1Gps interneto daisuki! :)

Wish they'd do something about the mosaics though........ :(.
