1TB (1,000GB) extra ADSL data for R99

There has to be a catch somewhere in that deal because it's too good to be true.

Afrihost's 20Mbps business uncapped bundle is R2297pm. Their normal 20Mbps uncapped is R1397pm. On Cybersmart, you could take 20Mbps line rental for R499 and get the 51GB bundle for R117. So you get unshaped VDSL for R616 with almost unlimited downloading.

That 51GB won't last 2weeks with netflix.

So increase the cap if that's what your needs are. Almost everyone I know downloads their media, so scheduling for midnight would be a non-issue.

Everyone does not download media yet.
I still watch a fair bit on netflix & hulu due to the availability and ease.

Technically you're still downloading your media. You're just not storing what you download.

Netflix and Hulu are not easy for most people though, and are not actually available. My parents still don't quite understand the gist of our Unotelly subscription, and I've never come across anyone with Netflix and/or Hulu that wasn't set up or instigated by me.

You can't schedule Netflix and Hulu though. That's the point. This after hours stuff is of no use.

Either way, I still use both.

But if I think about it, for most torrenting or http downloading is probably best.
This service will be great for them.

This deal could be amazing for VDSL. Huge cost saving and you just have to schedule your downloads to start at midnight.

There's nothing the ISP's can do about line rental costs.

I'm with Cybersmart and its going well... but I am annoyed that they don't offer VDSL capped.

Capped still makes a lot of sense if you are streaming and gaming (no shaping) and are prepared to shedule downloads.

I have a family that uses these services.
Playon
Putio, etc.

They all require me to do all the work.
Hulu allows my son and wife to do their own thing while I'm busy on my pc.
Any interruptions in the service and they just sit there staring blankly at errors.

I'll keep the complications to a minimum for now while I wait to get a raspberry pi or something.

Agreed. It's going to suck if you have to download that BF4, but you have to wait.

Or you could just set your PS3 and PS4 to update after midnight and have everything up to date permanently. To many people, a bit of inconvenience is a small price to pay for saving R600 a month.

R197 for 1mebs uncapped... with telkom line rental its about R330. That is R230 more p/m for rental + line to be able to download when you want to, in fact that R99 you still need to add on the line rental. Which makes it only R130 more ;)

I was referring to VDSL. I wouldn't bother with caps at slow speeds. I'm on 4Mbps Afrihost business, but when VDSL hits my exchange it will cost a fortune to stay on AH business.
