well look at other matches, he can bat faster. I think what happen was usually he is slow and sluggish at first while the other batsman does the work, i.e. smith. Problem is smith's injuries slowed the entire game down and with a new batsman on the other end Kallis was required to keep the momentum going which he did not so that placed huge pressure on the incoming batsman to perform heroics from the time they walked out.

As our supposedly "Premierre" batsmen should he not be able to work the ball around for the singles, find the gaps? I dont buy that, the entire game slowed down because Kallis showed no urgency in his batting which built pressure on the rest of the team. I would rather see him go down in a blaze of glory than leave with a whimper and consuming too many balls. The one day game is a fast paced game and if Kallis cant keep up he shouldnt be there.

Then again maybe he really just is retarded in his scoring, he had the slowest strike rate against even Holland.

Eish when I got to bed las night I was physically feeling the depression from us losing. :( But something was up in yesterdays match, none of our guys except Smith and AB seemed themselves, they were all sedate and calm (not in a good way), especially Kallis. *shakes head*

I agree - what happened to Shaun Pollock yesterday???????????????
 
He was very poor. Kept bowling the same delivery. No slower ball, no change of length or line. Poor form.
 
But McGrath also got smacked around a bit as well which was fun to watch. What happened with Polly's batting? Maybe we should just forget this match and concentrate on the next battle with Sri Lanka.

Guess it's the only thing we can do - doesn't help to sulk about this all day.
 
Well something needs to be done about this guys strike rate. Before I always thought that it's not so much of a problem because he'll carry the bat through the innings allowing the other batsmen to play their shots, but it turns out I was wrong. He actually cost us the match by slowing down the momentum after we were in a winning position at 220/1. Come to think of it he was also partly responsible for our mini collapse after we made only 30 runs off 5 overs towards the end in the 438 game.

One can't really blame Smith for slowing the momentum down after he had cramps, injuries do happen. A batsman with Kallis' experience should be able to resume the momentum, if he can't then give somebody else a chance in the team. The commentators stated numerous times that even run a ball doesn't cut it in these high scoring games, and he went much slower than that. Even Telemachus could have made a bigger difference with a 20-ball 30 :mad:

If this problem isn't addressed ASAP then the snail will think that he's done nothing wrong, and we might lose again in the main matches. We have a genuine shot at this world cup and I don't want us to stuff it up because of a Sanex model who plays for his average.
 
Well I'm sure he knows what was required but I guess it's just not his style to go all out from the start, but thats exactly what we needed. No doubt he's a great batsman but batting with urgency is handled better by guys like Bouch, Pollock and Kemp. All those guys looked out of it yesterday, but like kingrob says, no point moping around in depression all day, we gotta pick ourselves up and nail the Sri Lankans next match.

Exactly. Time and time again it has been said that Kallis' strike rate is not up to scratch in the one-day game and he has done nothing to change it.

The fact that he is a great player does not mean that he can get away with such slooow batting, especially when we need 7+ an over. That only resulted in the pressure piling up.

I mean there are other reasons we lost as well, and he is not the only one to blame, but IMO he is one of the main reasons...

It is 100% Kallis' fault. Everyone in the side succumbed to the pressure that Kallis put on them., The One Day game has changed where fast batting is a requirement - not an option. If Kallis can't step up to the plate, then he doesn't deserve his spot in the team. Simple really.
