I think the ref. Marius Jonker was put under stress with Jonathan Caplan being an assistent ref.

Never place a senior as a subsidiary.
 
LOL at lady rugga! Honestly, out of those 3, both the other two were better than that smit woman.

I am just going to say 2 things here:

(1) M_H, blaming the ref etc: I think what Picard said above is spot on - Kaplan can't by an assistant ref. Hell, some of us feel he should not even ref anymore but that is a separate issue. I know that VJB above felt the ref was a little too tolerant of the Sharks and I certainly made the comment that a penalty try or two should have been ordered. However, as the Ref could not see exactly what happened or who the culprit was, one can hardly begrudge him. The action was tight and we only have the benefit of TV replays after the fact when we comment. Sometimes, though, it really is bad refereeing that can be blamed. I do not think, in this instance, the officiating dictated the match though.

(2) LOL @ APOC: Wynand! Now that we have all had a good laugh, please see me outside at the bicycle shed. Couple o' thing we need to discuss...Actually, forget about it - it is still funny, BULLS fan or not....
 
Sonny Bill won his latest pro heavyweight boxing match whilst the Crusaders had a bye. Well supported by the coaches, fellow players etc . I thought they would have frowned upon it.

The Sharks had to defend manfully towards the end of the game and referee Marius Jonker rightly issued yellow cards to scrumhalf Charl McLeod and flank Keegan Daniel for illegal play.

But perhaps Jonker's assistants, Jonathan Kaplan and Cobus Wessels, should have done better to inform him of the incidents that Drotské was referring to.

"I was unhappy with three or four off-the-ball incidents. For example, Ashley Johnson was blatantly nailed with the shoulder and without arms after passing the ball. He was floored on two or three occasions," said Drotské.

"It's unacceptable that three match officials cannot spot it. Two weeks ago Rayno Benjamin was suspended for an alleged headbutt of which there was no footage. And against the Sharks there were three or four off-the-ball incidents that none of the officials spotted."

Drotské also believes that television match official Johann Meuwesen should perhaps have played a greater role in the game.

"We were over the goalline a few times and the TMO should have been consulted once or twice. Adriaan Strauss, in particular, feels that he scored and that is the difference between winning and losing."

Jonker had apparently already blown his whistle before Strauss could place the ball.

"Another turning point was when we were on the attack and Stefan Terblanche stood next to the ruck and knocked the ball down. There were four of our players against two defenders and it would have been a definite try, but we were still awarded a scrum. It does not make sense because it was definitely a yellow-card offence," said Drotské.

Mmmmmm - conspiracy. There, I said it.

Time to conspire. With this extended S15 schedule, teams will be exhausted by the end. Then, the creme get to compete in the Tri Nations. Then, by some miracle, the top 3 teams in the world must get together and put on a spectacle for the loser Northern Hemisphere sides and still defend and put up a good enough performance. That's a big ask, and we have discussed this to death already. So, the conspiracy? Forsake a shtty S15 victory to have a strong enough side to face the RWC. Let the Reds and the Blues exhaust ZA's top talent going into the TriNations and then make sure we don't over-exert there too so that, despite being forced to play our best talent, we keep them in good enough shape to defeat ZA in the RWC.

Secretly, I hope the Bulls and Sharks both fail to make the cut but this seems clinically impossible by now. Looks like at least one will, if not both. On the plus side, at least it seems their best finishes would be 5 and 6, meaning away sub-semi finals which they could gracefully exit.

I dunno - just throwing some thoughts around. Opinions?

Johannesburg - South African referee Pro Legoete may be dropped from the SANZAR panel altogether while his countryman Craig Joubert was cautioned for the red card incident that led to Waratahs lock Pat O'Connor being sent off against the Bulls last Friday night.
O'Connor was exonerated by the mandatory SANZAR judicial hearing on Saturday, after no evidence of the headbutt was found that led to the Red card incident.

SANZAR referees boss Lyndon Bray told The Australian newspaper that the decision was wrong.

"We reviewed the game on Monday night and clearly the decision was wrong," SANZAR referees boss Lyndon Bray told the newspaper. "There are two aspects which are frustrating. The description of the event was not very accurate.

"The process between the referee and the assistant referee was not good. It never fleshed out the details of the incident.”

Bray said he had held a conversation with Joubert on how the incident should have been handled.

"I've spoken to Craig Joubert about how he could have handled it better, to get better information on which to base his decision. Craig was very disappointed he ended up with that decision."

Legoete's hesitation in pronouncing a red card for O'Connor's offence made Bray believe the assistant referee had perhaps not communicated the offence properly to Joubert.

"Referees are prone to make mistakes all the time," Bray said. "What we don't want is a mistake to be compounded by a process that is not good.

"An experienced referee's job is to pick up on messages he is getting. When Pro said no to a red card, clearly there was a message in that.

"It's difficult in the heat of the moment. Craig believed he was dealing with a headbutt. If they had talked through what happened, maybe they would have come up with a different outcome."

Legoete is not on duty this weekend and SANZAR will still decide whether or not he will play a part in the last round of the competition.

So Pro and Craig rightly get censored for their performances Saturday now what of the officials in the Lions/Hurricances game? 3 forward passes that directly or indirectly resulted in 10pts and possibly cost the Lions the match...

I don't think they are, that Red Card was a horrible decision, am glad it was recognised as such. On the other hand no other nation has 3 refs at the world cup, maybe expect more from SA'n refs simply because they are generally better. Stuart Dickinson got slated by the New Zealand press two weeks ago but was defended Lyndon Bray, but he was on the sidelines the next week and isn't going to the world cup...
 
The red card and the 3 forward passes aren't the same thing. For a forward pass the ref looks at the action and not if the ball is actually going forward - like in the Stormers game Habana passed the ball back, but he was running back as well and the action looked forward. If the ref is not close to the action, he can only determine a forward pass by the action of the pass. I think they were fair in this regard in the punishments.
 
Forgive me if this has already been asked, but when did/do the Sharks play the Reds??
 
I don't think they did, there will be 2 teams you don't play per round or something like that.

Edit: I just checked, and no, they didn't play and they are not going to.

I guess in our case it's probably a good thing :) With our last matches being against the Lions and Bulls, it means we don't play them.
The only team that really needs to lose this weekend is the Tah's, if my calcs are correct. That way the Stormers, Bulls and Sharks all have a good chance of going through....
