2014 Jeep Cherokee

When is the launch?

Launch for the public 7 June AFAIK. I'm waiting to receive my invite for the VVIP launch (no idea why its VVIP, as there isn't a VIP). But I understand its after the general public launch.

Truth be told, my best mate's cousin sells Jeep vehicles and when I heard I was interested, gave me a call. Still got the invite even after I told him I'm not a buyer at the current prices.

Thanks!

You called yourself after you found out from yourself? :D

I kid, I kid.

Maybe he's hoping you'll be convinced...

Here's the split... and the prices:

Jeep Cherokee 2.4 Longitude FWD - R479 990
Jeep Cherokee 3.2 Limited FWD - R505 990
Jeep Cherokee 3.2 Limited AWD - R563 990
Jeep Cherokee 3.2 Trailhawk 4WD - R607 990

The Trailhawks, Jeep explains, have “active drive lock” (American car brands are incredibly versatile and inventive when it comes to names for technologies, hey?), a two-speed power transfer unit and a locking rear differential for rock-crawling or other severe off-road conditions which, probably, few owners will ever attempt. Pity...

Options include: Dual sunroof with power sunshade, wireless cellphone charger, 506W Alpine audio with nine speakers and sub-woofer, leather, extra tech and comfort features (ask your dealer, too much detail to list here).

PRICES (vehicles available early in June 2014)
Jeep Cherokee 2.4 Longitude FWD - R479 990
Jeep Cherokee 3.2 Limited FWD - R505 990
Jeep Cherokee 3.2 Limited AWD - R563 990
Jeep Cherokee 3.2 Trailhawk 4WD - R607 990

All new Jeep Cherokee / Grand Cherokee units are sold with a six-year or 100 000km maintenance plan.

VVIP - to make you fell more special :p Some of these events are plied with champagne and good snacks, guess they try and make you feel like you're worth it (to spend the money on the vehicle). There will probably some study on these "launch" invites.

With regards to price, you're going to have to suck it up, I don't think things will ever come down in SA. Where you won't purchase, there are probably 10 people who will.

That's the modus operandi for sure. I'd rather take a 2 year old trailblazer for R250k less though. It's a waiting game for me.

I've sold my Hilux, kinda of regretting it - looking to buy a Suzuki Jimny :p Going to stick to cheap cars for awhile, my wife can have the expensive stuff.

I'm probably buying a sedan to replace the Patriot, when I get the right deal... Will then buy an off-roader next year, when my wife trades her car in.

Sounds good. Situations reversed for me - both fiancé and I have hatches. Hers is newer (and better) than mine, so thought a SUV / hatch is a better combination.

Have you seen that interior?

Why?

Oh, sorry. Meant you going el cheapo and wife getting expensive stuff.

Been struggling on the subject for a while, been bored since I sold my S2000, Hilux is getting old, and costing me over R5,000 petrol each month.

So I was looking for something to replace it, I can either go with a expensive road based diesel for the fuel economy, or settle for something cheaper, such as the Jimny, which could double as offroad fun.

Probably doing the family thing next year, so by 2016 - we'll need one decent family vehicle, which she can drive (her office is close to work)

Ah okay.

R5000 pm? Ouch. :erm:

Yeah, then that makes sense. Jimny's are quite nifty, actually. Maybe take one for a spin and see if it fits.

Guess Renegade is out as it isn't 'cheap' but is small and fun.

Already done that - Suzuki isn't interested in sales much, been waiting since Wednesday for them to confirm stock.

Petrol cost :p

Lovely! At last they are starting to look like something. Not sure what, but I am sure it is something. The fact that it is annoying long time customers is a bonus.

Our first ones arrived today - I am not impressed, unfortunately.

Perceived quality might be there, but actual finish is very plastic, and the doors sound tinny when you close them. I couldn't even drum up the energy to drive one.

Monster Fail IMHO.
