I find the new Passat's rear end too generic. The taillights seem too small for the rest of the body, and the inside reminds me of the older Mercs with the analogue clock.

For the price I would rather go Audi (not that you can get much Audi for R500K)

As a Passat owner (previous gen), I also lust after Audis, but I know I got so much more for my money. Same with the new one. For R600k, you can fully spec the one with the GTi engine... Adaptive cruise control, LED lights, digital dash etc, etc, etc. To get a similar spec'ed new A4, you will probably pay R800k and you'll have a much smaller boot!

Volkswagen SA has added a 2,0 TDI derivative to its local Passat range, while also taking the chance to restructure its model line-up.

At the local launch in October 2015, the eighth-generation Passat was offered with a choice of petrol engines only. But now VW SA has finally introduced a turbodiesel model, while also apparently canning the 1,8 TSI engine.

The 2,0-litre TDI is linked to a six-speed DSG and makes 130 kW and 350 N.m, with the latter on tap from as low as 1 500 r/min. The obligatory sprint from zero to 100 km/h takes a claimed 8,2 seconds, while top speed comes in at 228 km/h. Claimed combined fuel economy, meanwhile, is 5,0 L/100km.

The rejigged range now comprises two new equipment lines: Luxury and Executive (replacing Comfortline, Highline and R-Line). The so-called Luxury derivatives feature LED headlights, three-zone climate control and “Vienna” leather seats (with a heating function up front) as standard.

The posher Executive trim adds App Connect, “Nappa” leather, dynamic cornering lights, LED daytime running lights and the R-Line styling package (comprising a model-exclusive front grille, front and rear bumpers, side skirts and 18-inch “Marseille” alloys).

VW SA furthermore says that existing optional equipment has been “repackaged to give customers more value”.

The new optional packages include: the Tow Package (towbar, trailer assist and park assist); Safety Package (Adaptive Cruise Control and head-up display); Park Package (keyless access, automatic boot, rear view camera and park assist); Park Package with Area View (area view, keyless access, automatic boot and park assist); Luxury Package (electric front seats, electric folding mirrors, DynAudio sound system, ambience lighting and 230V socket) and R-Line Styling Package (Luxury models).

All models come standard with a five-year/100 000 km maintenance plan.

Pricing:
Volkswagen Passat 1,4 TSI Luxury 110 kW DSG: R468 200
Volkswagen Passat 2,0 TSI Executive 162 kW DSG: R522 400
Volkswagen Passat 2,0 TDI Luxury 130 kW DSG: R493 900
Volkswagen Passat 2,0 TDI Executive 130 kW DSG: R522 400

But but technically you are an Audi driver, same engine, same gearbox, same chassis unless you think a dashboard is used for driving... umm look where you're driving when you're behind the wheel not at the badge on the steering wheel.

You are in fact driving a bigger better Audi for the price of a smaller Audi

Volkswagen South Africa is now offering a turbodiesel engine for the Passat sedan and the range has also been updated to include additional standard features.

When this iteration of the Passat was launched in South Africa a year ago, it was an all-petrol affair with a choice of either a 1.4- or 2.0-litre turbopetrol engine on offer.

Now, Volkswagen South Africa welcomes a 2.0-litre TDI engine to the Passat range with peak outputs of 130 kW and 350 Nm of torque. This engine is mated with a 6-speed DSG transmission, allowing for acceleration from 0 to 100 kph in 8.2 seconds before reaching a top speed of 228 kph. Volkswagen claims a fuel consumption figure of 5.0 L/100 km.

Additional standard features

The Passat is now offered with two equipment lines, namely Luxury and Executive (previously Comfortline and Highline). The Passat Luxury is offered with LED headlights, 3-zone Climatronic air conditioning and Vienna leather heated seats as standard.

The Passat Executive adds additional standard features such as App Connect, Nappa leather seats, LED headlights with cornering lights and LED daytime running lights. This derivative is also fitted with an R-Line Styling Package and 18-inch Marseille alloy wheels as standard.

Optional packages include:

Tow Package – Towbar, trailer assist and park assist
Safety Package – Adaptive cruise control and head-up display
Park Package – Keyless access, automatic boot, rear view camera and park assist
Park Package with Area View – Area view, keyless access, automatic boot and park assist
Luxury Package – Electric front seats, electric folding mirrors, DynAudio sound system, ambient lighting and 230V socket.
R-Line Styling Package – Luxury models only
Volkswagen Passat – Price in South Africa

2.0 TDI Executive 130 kW DSG R522 400

The Passat is sold with a 3-year/120 000 km warranty, 5-year/100 000 km maintenance plan and 12-year anti-corrosion warranty.

My model is not on the Audi chassis. The older one was. It is on a modified Golf 5 chassis. The new one is on the MQB chassis. My 118 kW 1.8T engine is also lower power than what you can get in the Audi's... The Passat is however a great car.

Shame well I guess you'll have to burn it since it's only like 50-70% audi then.

Both my posts praise the car. I was only correcting you. Why would I burn it? I can still lust after sexier cars (like the new S5), like someone may lusts after Dianna Agron, even though they love their spouse.

No problem dude. I lost my sense of humour today at work. Will find it again tomorrow. Must be honest, I was struggling to gage your tone...

Suppose the internet and forums in general are so negatively charged these days that flaming or trolling seems to be the default expected reply.
