Hyundai Boosts Tucson with N-line Kit

Hyundai is expanding its offering of N-Line performance vehicles.

After successfully evolving its i30 hatchback to a true Golf R rival in the form of i30N, Hyundai’s second N-Line vehicle has been revealed to be an SUV.

The hotter Tucson features re-sculptured bumpers front and rear, a dark mesh front grille contrasted by chrome surrounds, gloss finish wing mirrors and rear spoiler, darkened side window frame surrounds and an N-Line specific LED illumination pattern for its head- and taillights. Further differentiating the N-Line version from other Tucsons are 19-inch wheels.

Inside the Tucson N-Line there is red contrast stitching holding the combination suede/leather seats together. The scarlet stitch work is also present on its steering wheel and shifter handle, whilst in the footwell you’ll find aluminium pedals

Should I buy one?

This is not the Tucson to buy. At least not with this powertrain if you want even the slightest illusion of sportiness.

The Tucson is a fundamentally fine, if slightly insipid, SUV that sits in the well of acceptable competency alongside cars like the Renault Kadjar and its Kia Sportage sibling. With the diesel engine, it’s frugal and quiet enough, too.

But bar a fraction more style and some comfier seats, N-Line doesn’t offer enough to justify the trade-off of a less comfortable ride in base diesel form. Perhaps it does with the petrol engine, though, and at least the trim’s additions don’t add too much to the price.

Pricing! Hyundai Tucson Sport arrives with bold body kit, added grunt

Hyundai Automotive South Africa has added a pair of Sport models to its Tucson range, handing the flagship variants bold styling kits and added oomph.

Of course, the local arm of the Korean firm offered similar packages for the pre-facelift model back in 2017, selling a total of 516 units. Interestingly, though, the refreshed Tucson Sport is now offered with a choice of powertrains (petrol and diesel).

The first is Hyundai’s familiar turbocharged 1,6-litre petrol engine (mated to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission). Peak outputs have been raised from the standard 130 kW and 265 N.m to 150 kW and 300 N.m, with pricing for this Tucson 1,6T Sport coming in at R654 900.

The Tucson 2,0D Sport, meanwhile, will set you back R664 900, with its 2,0-litre turbodiesel engine now making 150 kW and 460 N.m (up from the standard figures of 131 kW and 400 N.m). This variant employs an eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission, again driving the front wheels.

Both derivatives feature a bold body kit (comprising a front spoiler lip, faux rear-diffuser and chunky side sills) and model-specific 19-inch alloy wheels. An uprated exhaust system culminating in four tailpipes is also part of the package.

The popular Hyundai Tucson has again received the Sport treatment and goes on sale shortly in South Africa. Here's how much it costs.

Hyundai's Tucson is a popular model for the Korean brand and has contributed significantly to the brand's market share. Tucson has done well in terms of sales, bested only by the Toyota RAV4, Volkswagen Tiguan and Mazda CX-5. The previous Tucson Sport was well-received, tallying up 516 sales, with the majority of those (374 units) being the manual-equipped model. The rest were the dual-clutch model.

Now for 2019, there's a new Hyundai Tucson Sport. What's new, you ask? At the front, there's an aggressive lip, while the rear gains a quad exhaust setup integrated into a neat diffuser. The Sport kit also adds sporty side skirts and bigger gloss black 19-inch alloy wheels. In terms of engine choices, you have the option of the 1.6-litre turbocharged motor, which produces 150 kW and 300 Nm. The Sport specification is now offered with the 2.0-litre turbodiesel, which produces 150 kW and 460 Nm. Interestingly, these outputs are more than their standard non-Sport equivalents. In standard trim, the 1.6 turbo offers up 130 kW and 265 Nm, while the diesel produces 131 kW and 400 Nm.

Hyundai Tucson Sport is back, and now with diesel option

Hyundai South Africa has brought the Tucson 1.6T Sport back to life, and it comes with a friend - for the first time the sporty derivative will also be available as a diesel.

As before, the Sport specification is far more than just a racy body kit - Hyundai has modified the engines of both models.
In the case of the 1.6-litre turbopetrol version, outputs have been raised from 130kW and 265Nm to 150kW and 300Nm.

In power terms the 2-litre turbodiesel Sport model is a similar deal, with maximum power rising from 131kW to 150kW, but it’s the torque figure that impresses here, up from 400Nm to 460Nm.

Both remain front-wheel driven, with the petrol engine mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and the diesel paired with an eight-speed torque converter auto.

The Tucson Sport models command a R56 000 premium over the equivalent Elite derivatives.

I honestly think i would be happy with any of these.. they are pretty and seem to be well kitted out.. now if only #Hyundaisouthafrica could give me one that would be greeaaat :whistling::thumbsup:
 
Hyundai SA refreshes Tucson Sport: Design tweaks, power boost and new diesel engine

Hyundai's popular Tucson SUV range in South Africa has been bolstered with a new derivative sporting design tweaks, enhanced power and diesel power.

The Sport is available in two derivatives: The petrol version with a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine, and a diesel version with a 2-litre turbocharged engine.

All prices include:

Hyundai Tucson Sport (2019) Launch Review

Verdict

The Sport's racy body kit, eye-catching wheels and quartet of exhaust tips certainly add visual clout to the updated Tucson, but its lack of subtlety may not appeal to discerning family-car buyers. Compared with its standard siblings, the newcomer does, however, remain practical as Elite-spec derivatives, even if some paddle shifters and maybe some special contrast stitching would have lifted the nature of the car to a level more befitting with its name.

As for the power upgrades, they certainly have an effect, but probably more so than required. The Sport wheelspins at every opportunity by virtue of its over-sensitive throttle pedal. With more experience in the Tucson Sport, you may eventually learn to be very gentle with the throttle and save yourself from excessive tyre wear, not least amateurish pull aways.

The R60k increase in price (compared with Elite-spec derivatives) seems reasonable considering the exterior bolt-ons and, in terms of monthly instalments, the premium will probably result in monthly instalments of a few hundred rands extra, at most. As a performance car, it’s a bit raw and unrefined, but as a family car with surfeit kerb appeal, it’s in the ballpark!
