The Tiguan is sold with a 3-year/120 000 km warranty and a 5-year/90 000 km service plan.

Summary

The new Volkswagen Tiguan represents a marked improvement over the outgoing model, particularly in terms styling, technology and overall quality. As such, we think that the new Tiguan will be well received by local buyers, especially considering that Volkswagen has maintained a competitive pricing structure.

In fact, some derivatives are cheaper than the equivalent 2nd-generation Tiguan, which will surely be welcomed by local Volkswagen stalwarts.

The number nerds out there who keep a keen eye on the monthly new car sales figures will know that Volkswagen is under tremendous pressure to protect its market share. Currently the 2nd best-selling car brand in South Africa (behind Toyota), Volkswagen is working hard to stave off Japanese budget car giant, Suzuki, whose growth trajectory in South Africa has been nothing short of phenomenal.

In a tough economic climate, consumers are more price-sensitive than ever before. With this in mind, Volkswagen is making a concerted effort to minimise price increases for some of its models including the facelifted Polo Vivo (prices remain unchanged) and revised T-Cross(prices reduced for some variants).

Considering the significant changes made to the new, 3rd-gen Tiguan in conjunction with palatable pricing, it will be interesting to see if Volkswagen will gain ground on its rivals in the months to come.

Not just you. My mom's 2017 Tiguan 1.4 TSI DSG came in at around R470 000 with options. Same engine (with cylinder deactivation), but arguably better 6-speed wet clutch DSG. And no television stuck to the dashboard.
 
Will this be South Africa’s best-selling car in 2027? VW’s new compact SUV teased

Volkswagen South Africa (VWSA) announced earlier this year that it was investing R4 billion to build a brand new compact SUV in South Africa from 2027.

The vehicle has yet to be revealed, but VWSA has previously confirmed that the company’s Brazilian division was leading its development and that the newcomer would be priced below the T-Cross.

Now Volkswagen of Brazil has released a teaser of a new small SUV product that will be launched there in 2025, and with local media reporting that it will slot in beneath the T-Cross, it is highly likely that what you see here is South Africa’s new locally-built ‘third product’ as VWSA representatives have labelled it.

Only one darkened image has been released as yet, and after lightening it in a photo editor we get a clear view of the front end, which takes much of its inspiration from the new Tiguan, with its large lower air dam and slim upper grille. A curvy front fender further distinguishes it from its hatchback siblings.

DRIVEN: New Volkswagen Tiguan has been refreshed in all the right places

Volkswagen have lifted the lid of the new Tiguan now in its third generation, having seen the light for the first time in 2007.

Since then it has become their best selling SUV with more than 7.4-million sold and since its introduction to the local market in 2009 more than 41,000 of them have found homes.

It’s a whole new package and whereas the model it replaces was boxy with some sharp angles the new one has more curves and smoother lines.

As a result of the more aggressive front end with integrated LED headlights, a glass covered horizontal bar with an integrated LED strip that replaces the radiator grill, the drag coefficient has improved from 0.33 to 0.28.

A new horizontal LED strip between the tail lights dominates the rear.

It’s 30mm longer which has allowed them to increase the luggage compartment by 37 litres to 652 litres.

The interior has been completely redesigned and sports an integrated digital cockpit.

The instrument panel at 260mm has an anti-reflective coating which works well as we found out in the hot Karoo sun during the launch drive which can be set to Classic, Progressive, Navigation or R-line.

Lucas Radebe teams up with Volkswagen to mentor tomorrow’s female superstars

Soccer legend Lucas Radebe is on a mission to mentor and inspire a new generation of female leaders.

The former Bafana Bafana captain has joined Volkswagen South Africa’s Train 4 Life programme, which aims to empower young girls through football and life skills education.

As a brand ambassador, Radebe will help to cultivate talent and foster personal growth among today’s youth.

The company’s Train 4 Life initiative came to life in 2021 as a partnership with the Department of Basic Education. It was specifically designed to empower young girls from disadvantaged communities, with the pilot programme having involved six high schools based in Alexandra.

“We are delighted to welcome Lucas Radebe into the Volkswagen family as our brand ambassador,” VWSA’s marketing head Bridget Harpur enthused.
