384 Kbps to 1 Mbps Upgrades

Rebooted my router this morning and I'm still on 384 :( anything specific I have to do to get bumped up or does it just happen?

Call them on 10210. Tell them to "Reset your ADSL profile".

They should do it over the phone and then just restart the router, it should be 1Mbps then.

Called and asked them to refresh my profile, guy said they don't do that. Guess I'll just call back in a while and get someone else who will offer something more constructive.

Make sure you choose "ADSL tech support" in the menu when calling 10210.

They will reset the profile, there is no reason why they should'nt do it, just tell them you must get 1Mbps but you're getting 384kbps instead so they must please reset the adsl profile.

Yup...

If Telkomsa asks why you want / need this done... just tell them that their Telkomsa ADSL line checker webpage states that your line speed is 1mbs and your router is only syncing at 384 and that is why you are requesting the ADSL profile be updated. They cannot argue against their own system.

It took me 5 calls and 4 unhelpful support-bots to be able to get it done.

Thanks for the info. Got hold of someone helpful and they said the router needs to be turned off while they so this - she was willing to help out, I'm at work now so will try again when I get home. I could wait but I'm just longing for some speed .... well more speed for me.

OK - everyone please get off the phone already! I need to get my upgrade done! :)

It took me 5 months of arguing with them to move me to 10Mbps after the line checker was updated to show that my line supports it...

They told me the same thing, I told him I'm not at home and just give me a second whilst I call home and ask them to switch it off. The Guy says don't sorry, he will reset it with my router on..

Looks like I have to wait since this doesn't seem like this is possible with Webafrica Home Uncapped accounts :(

There is no need to turn off the Router, the lady at Telkom said she is increasing the speed while we're talking and I just saw that all my programs on the PC disconnects and reconnects. Then I saw that my router as on 1Mbps.

Ok guys I'm pretty confused.
First of all I moved my 384kb/s line to Afrihost, which has now been completed. AfriHost is now in the process of upgrading my line to 1mb/s (or up to 2mb/s).
So what I would like to know is firstly can I still ask telkom to upgrade the line to 1mb/s seeing as it's with afrihost now, and also if I upgrade to 1mb/s will I have to do it again when the "up to 2mb/s" finally gets completed?

These 1Mb upgrades are to do with the phasing out by Telkom of the 384k ADSL line speed. These upgrades from 384 to 1Mb will be done for the same monthly ADSL line rental of 384k. The same was with the previous 1Mb to 2Mb upgrades by Telkom.

I think that any deviation from this will result in higher rental charges for the upgraded line speeds.

To go from 384k - 1Mb - no increase in line rental
To have gone from the 1Mb to 2Mb upgrades over the past few months - no increase as well.
To go from 384k - 1Mb and then to 2Mb will result in the increased line rental for the 2Mb line as well as ISP package upgrade costs too.

I've already paid for the "up to 2mb/s" which is probably 1mb/s unless I ask.
Anyways, the lady on the telephone said that its automatic and if I want it immediately I have to pay extra. SO she said that it will automatically happen when my exchange is upgraded. However, on the telkom checker it says my line is enabled for 1mb/s so surely I should be able to?
The problem is that the people at Telkom are refusing to do it because they say it will happen automatically, which is the opposite to what I have read on this thread...

UPDATE: I have been upgraded now from 384 to 1mb. It's been such a painful experience.
I hate Telkom.

Its automatic. The lady I called sounded very confused as to why I wanted to reset my adsl profile. So I told her I am still syncing at 384 and It is suppose to be 1mb. She then reset it for me and it is working fine now

Exactly what I told her, few minutes later it was done.
