384 Kbps to 1 Mbps Upgrades

Hey guys, I also phoned in now and got them to reset my profile, but its syncing at 512kbs, downloading at 60kb/s. I told the guy and he said the speed will still go up since they are still working on it. Any advice?
 
mine is still not upgraded yet. Do I have to call them or they will do it automatically?
 
I am pleasantly surprised by the response on this thread,it implies people are hungry for affordable bandwidth but here in SA Telkom and ISP are not really interested in providing consumer level Internet which is reliable and cheap like many European countries here everything is a rip off more more profits is the order of the day for all companies.Iam waiting for my CHEAP 100 Mbps connection:)

This so true. I had said earlier that telkom will take another 3 and a bit years to attempt any such upgrade again. The 384k -> 1M is just a way of saying that they are providing a service and that we can shut up now while we make some money. The web has existed for so long and technology is advancing at such a fast pace.

Yet, we are happy for a 3 x speed upgrade on the entry level broadband connection.

I must say. I am very happy for the upgrade. I am a 1M user and it works for me.

It started downloading at 1mb speeds automatically without me having to call OpenWeb up. Even if my terminology is wrong, I think it's pretty obvious what I meant.
 
Upgraded to 1Mbps. So much more faster than the 384kbps I had!
 
So I phoned Telkom last night and asked them to reset my profile which they did, but after resetting my profile, I cant access the internet at all now. The DSL light on the modem goes on, but the internet light turns red.

Phoned back and spent 30mins with the consultant. The DSL light goes on, but I can connect to my ISP. We tried logging into the telkom guest account and even this did not work. I tried another modem and this did not work as well. Thy say that everything seems fine on their side and that my moden is syncing fine. Resetting the port again also didnot help.

I had a similar problem a month ago. The techie had to come out to my place. Checked my line and all was in order. Made a call to the exchange and my line was sorted. (Im dont know what he told them to do). It seems the same problem has cropped up again.

The call centre guys says that there is nothing more that they can do on their side and have given me a reference number. I need to wait for the techie to come out again.

I guess slow internet is better than no internet. Anybody have any idea what the issue could be?
 
Yeaahh!! DSL checker stated I was on 1meg line, called Telkom and said "Can you please reset my profile as I'm on a 1meg line and only syncing at 384kbps". The lady hang on for a few minutes, and then said I should be syncing to one meg. checked my router: 1024kbps! This feels good, everything so fast... till I hear about the folks overseas on their 100mbps lines.

Did a few test downloads and I'm hitting 110KBps. Good stuff.
 
I've been upgraded!! :D

Now I need a nice 1Mbps Uncapped account?

Mweb? or Webafrica? any others?

I need to be able to pay by debit order.
 
So what are the throttling policies of Telkom 1mb uncapped?
 
Well, just phoned and got my line manually upgraded - damn, Telkom can when they want, to do something properly - Congrats Telkom
 
YES PLZ!!! Phoned 10210 this morning after 4 unsuccessful attempts yesterday.
Told the guy that I used the adsl speedchecker and saw that 1Mb was now available but that my router was still syncing at 384. He said, "OK hold on for me while I change your profile for you". a few seconds later and it was done!

if you are at work (like me), then use teamviewer to login at home to monitor your router and reset if necessary.

check my line with the checker and it said 1mb. call telkom and the helpfull lady said she set it to 1mb lets see when i get home. I live in crestholme, Waterfall, Durban, KZN
