384 Kbps to 1 Mbps Upgrades

Today I didn't have to wait for a Youtube video to buffer on 360p. I nearly cried with happiness.
 
Mine's been upgraded, and I can see it in my router, it's 1mb. My speeds are a bit all over the place though, but mainly around 0.35-ish d/l. Typical 384kb fare. I guess that's because my account is Axxess's 384kb uncapped Just Surf account, the R85 one. To get the most out of this upgrade, do I have to switch to their R196 1mb uncapped account, or should I be getting better speeds than this on the Just Surf account? I thought 1mb was now the lowest entry level line one could get, so a bit surprised to see Axxess still throttling a 1mb line to a 384kb kind of speed.

My router is synching at 1024 but I still download at roughly my old 384 speeds. My upload is faster though, so that's something I suppose...

Yes, you will have to upgrade your ISP account.
 
Just phoned them even though my line is managed by WebAfrica. Now syncing at 1mbps!

x2.67 faster download / x4 faster upload

I have exactly the same problem (as mentioned earlier in this thread somewhere). I'm not willing to pay double I'm currently paying. Axxess should realy get a R100pm 1mbps JustSurf package.
Alternatively we would have to move over to gconnect https://gconnect.wirelessg.co.za/uncappedpromotion.aspx that does offer a shaped 1mbps package for R100pm.

Pay off huge capital investments? Increase capacity on backhauls, routers, and other equipment that carries your traffic from the DSLAM via your internet access provider to the internet? Complete the MSAN roll-out? Upgrade existing (ageing) BRASs/ESRs? Complete line quality testing/validation to ensure the 2Mbps can be attained by the majority of customers?

(It could be less than 3 years ...)
 
Hello 110kB/s download speeds, took 2 calls and now on 1mb. Feels like heaven.

Hi,

I'm also in Crestholmes. I'm on Afrihost and must say in general, browsing sucks. Downloads at night is normally full speed.

I spoke to a telkom techie a few weeks ago and he said there is a lot of congestion at our exchange(They are busy upgrading, but don't know when they will flip the switch).

Our internet line has been recently upgraded from 384 to 1024 but without the speed increase.

This is what our router reads:
Line Rate - Upstream (Kbps): 128
Line Rate - Downstream (Kbps): 384

But we have confirmation that it has been upgraded from telkom.

Please contact ASAP in like 5 minutes. Please

Same thing happened to me.. Called Telkom explain my issue and the call was transferred to someone who could help. .. only to be transferred to the wrong department:erm:.
Second call was I told Yes.. It cant be done because Telkom is busy with upgrade and will have to wait:mad:.
Third time I was lucky .. The guy was very helpful and patient cause I had to reboot my rooter remotely a view times before I finally synced at 1024k

So just keep calling someone will help you:)

Yeah, dade. Also a bit peeved by that. Software throttling the lowest entry level line to a now defunct line speed -- and for what, is a bit irritating. I'll look into that link you posted as well. Thanks.
 
Got upgraded to 1meg last night. Did not need to phone telkom.

Quite chuffed - just did a system upgrade and got a solid 108kB/s download speed throughout!

I called telkom and they told me that it's not happening yet. No one gets upgrades till the 15th of October
