384K uncapped account troubles

So how is this suppose to work now?
(lets use 512kb account as example)

Day 1 to 10 has 10Gb window. If I exceed that 10Gb on day 5, my speed is halfed until day 10? Does it go back to 512Kb on day 11? What does it mean "if consumption is reduced bandwith will be restored to purchased level"?

It is truely a South African only thing to market a capped product as uncapped. But people will get away with it because most consumers just whine about it and keep on paying the prices regardless because there is no alternative.

How I understand it in the 512 kbps case is as follows:

Your intial threshold level is 30 GB. If you reach this amount in any 10-day period of a given month then you will receive half your line speed (256 kbps) for the following 10 days. Then in those 10 days (the second 10 days) if you keep your usage under 10 GB (total for 10 days) then your full line speed will be restored (until the end of that month I guess ?!). My interpretation of the rolling period may be wrong though...

There was a month where I was capped, what I did was to transfer as much data as I could for the remaining days of the month to eat up the remaining 27G of local cap. I consumed bandwidth just for the sake of it. If everyone were to do that (and overload capacity) maybe they would upgrade their infrastructure to give us decent service levels. Would be nice if such an idea would work in the real world.

Guys this is supposed to be uncapped ! Remember ! No monthly usage capp like 30 or 60 gig etc. I hope all their computers burn out !

I do agree (uncapped) = no limits

However, the shaping they apply still keeps the account within the definition of uncapped. We will have news tomorrow at 17h00 regarding the rolling window bandwidth caps and / or possible alternatives.

I apologise about the system, and I am sorry that i had to send out a notice yesterday, but I firmly believe in playing open cards with clients.
We received official notification, and we passed it on.
Have a pleasant afternoon, and I look forward to your emails.

IS are a third party in your dealings with your clients. Your clients have no contract with IS, but with you, Openweb. There is no such thing as "official notification" in the eyes of your clients. So you cannot pass it on. That notification is for you and you alone, not for your clients. Your clients purchased an uncapped product from you, not from IS. It is your responsibility to deliver the product you have sold them.

If you have a problem with your supplier not delivering, then it is your problem. Deal with it!

The last thing you should be doing is shrugging your shoulders and wishing your clients a pleasant afternoon.

Hi Gatecrasher

Thank you for your feedback.

I am sorry you feel this way.

I still believe it was the best call to send the notice rather than deny there are any rate limiting policies in effect.

We agree our clients have no dealing with IS, thus it is important that they contact us directly with any queries, suggestions or complaints.

For any further queries, clients my reach me directly on [email protected]

Kind regards
MrBEEP

I have a suggestion: Refund the clients that have paid for uncapped on a pro- rata basis from the date of the notifcation to the client. Let the reseller and IS go and sort out their issues without prejudice to the end user. The way i see it right now the loser is the end user and the middle man, while we sympathise with his predicament, is still benefitting from this month's fees for a service that he has openly admitted that he is unable to provide.

One ISP can not take IS to court, but if all of them combine their efforts they would be able to, without fear of IS retaliation.

I totally agree... As for that comment...."BRING IT ON".. how unprofessional.. That is not how u do business and treat clients!...Im sure many ppl are disappointed

I dunno what all this fuss is about.

I have never had a problem with Openweb. Although, I have never sued them either, so I wont know.

But then again, I have been very happy so I dont need to sue.

Openweb FTW!!!!

Yip all those reselling these I.S products.. these chaps here are pissed off cause they wer given the wrong impression of it being truly uncapped when purchasing and on top of that where not notified from the relevant companies when I.S decided to implement this new scheme of ders...

Boooooo I.S:D

Oh ok! Cool. Yeah, this thread was soooo long, I read like the last few posts and just saw a whole lotta people moaning.

I checked out some ISP sites, and many of them dont have anything about this listed:

This is one of the bigger ones.

But I dont understand why everyone is shouting at Openweb. poor mrbeeep, he must be on drugs by now...hehe

What I appreciate is that Openweb is active on these forums, and always reply to threads. How many isps actually do that!!?

Kudos to the Beepster!

That's because they don't sell IS uncapped express accounts:

Well according to the ISP rep they don't, as I quoted. I don't think these 12 month contract accounts carry the same limitations.
