400 Mbps ADSL

MBps .... megabytes per second. 400Mbps is equald to 400 megabits per second -> 50 megabytes per second.

I did not see the capitals. Apologies :o
We usually just talk in Mbps and not MBps ;)

Thats is fast!!! But would it really be of much help to everyday people like me and you? Surely we must stop somewhere?

Stop? We haven't even started yet! :p

For most people it is of no use. For others however, it will create chaos because they will end up extorting the line to its maximum and download terabyte upon terabyte per month (Actually just downloading via http can allow for around 110Terabytes per month)

There is a use for such insane speed, how about business servers? gaming servers? check wow for instance, they had to create different realms just to support all the players, imagine every1 could just play on 1 world, how badly would it have lagged. With this, things like that is possible. Not everything has to be used at home u know :)

good explanation froot, thanks
I think many ppl get confused with B and b, personaly I think this should be explained to evryone.

so when Telkom advertise 4Mbps ppl get confused and think of 4 mega bytes per second when it's actually bits.

Strangely enough, one of those people was from Neotel support staff. He didn't know that the 156kbps they advertised was 156kilobits per second. This was in one of the Neosmell article threads.

Please excuse my "pseudo-intellectualism" but I have to ask, I am currently paying Mega-Rs for 384kbps, if we're talking 332Mbps will we have to pay Terra-Rs for this? Just when will 332Mbps cost what 384kbps costs now?

Business servers really don't need ADSL.
WoW (battle.net) servers certainly have some gigabit/s of a dedicated line. (synchronous speed)

ADSL (asymmetric) is only indended for home users.

400 mbps ADSL.... sounds good.
But NOW it's an overkill for home users.
~25 mbps already is enough for hdtv-over-ip and very fast downlod speeds.

But... 400 mbps ADSL is a nice option for future.
So there is no need for fibre to the homes. :D

4x VDSL lines, bonded, will give you 400Mbps. You will have to be within 300m of the exchange though.

You forgot the bit about being one of the 300 richest people in the country to afford this service:o.

Actually it is not even available in SA yet. We'll have to wait for Neotel or Telkom to bless us with this service.
