4G network claims: 4G or 4Gery

Now we'll have all sorts of experts shooting their mouths of at every braai we attend, telling us how Cell-C's 4Gs network is technically superior to Vodacom and MTN, when it's (almost*) exactly the same. Just like a few years ago when everywhere we went, we had to listen to some chop tell us that MTN's Edge was better than Vodacom's 3G, because that's how marketing pitched it.

Actually it's far more than just a different frequency - whenever you build a network from scratch with the latest equipment, it usually is better... from what I gather all their HSPA+ radios are software based, and they'll be running at 42Mbps before end of year, and the same equipment is being tested at 112Mbps already.

I'm not associated with CellC in any way, but I'm a massive fan of people doing stuff right, and although I feel their marketing was dodgy at every level, technically they seem to be doing all the right things. Whether it ends up being awesome, who knows... I hope it is everything we hoped for, god knows we need someone to lead the way!

There has to be a line somewhere and Cell C has definitely crossed a line.

O' you are so right, they (Cell C) did cross a line and that line was cheaper internet than VC and MTN and they (VC & MTN) don't like that line.

Honestly who gives a flying f%*k what they call it, untill Voda-Thief and MT-Ripoff can produce something that actually competes with Cell C's pricing structure instead of just whining like 2 sluts who just had to swallow about the naming convention, they can just STFU and GTFO as far as the average man on the street is concerned.

Grow some balls guys, show us you are not just ripping us off, I dare you.

If Cell C hasn't even figured out what technology it is deploying and marketing, I question whether they should be allowed to receive money in exchange for utter B$ shoved down the throats of consumers.

It has already been suggested that Cell C will increase its prices sooner or later and that this is merely a limited time offer promotion to gain some traction in the market.

Obviously I prefer it if Cell C does stick with undercutting VC and MTN but I just don't see that happening for very long.

IMHO Cell C needs to prove itself (there is a broadband network operator learning curve that Cell C still has to climb) and marketing the network as 4G does not inspire confidence as far as I'm concerned.

I've seen their CEO, Lars, quoted a few times in the press since the launch saying that although this is a launch offer, he doesn't expect them to raise the prices going forward. Obviously WebAfrica hasn't informed CellC that their model isn't sustainable yet
