4G network claims: 4G or 4Gery

You know when you're at a bar...and you have this drunk person telling you the same frickin' story...over and over and over and over and over again? And all you wanna do is just sit and enjoy your drink, but this person follows you around and keeps on keeping on?
Well...I'm in this bar...and all I'm hearing, "4G this and 4G that and 4G this and 4G that and 4G this and 4G that, etc, etc, etc."

I think it has now well and truly been established that Cell C is talking out of their a$$e$, it'll never be 4G, Tom, Dick and Harry on the street doesn't care what "G" it is as long as the price is right, MTN and VC are a throwing their toys out of their cot and this story is getting old.
Seriously...can we move it along already....

Thank you please.

100% correct.
Vodacom is saying 7.2....... never got close to it. It is all bull@
Thanks cell c.

PS: Cell uses 4Gs note the "s"
4 Great Service... see their website :P

User experiences can deteriorate rapidly as the number of simultaneous broadband users in a cell increases. To take one example of HSPA deployed in 20 MHz in a typical cell in the U.S. the throughput per user drops to under 1 Mbps when the number of active users in the cell reaches 10

So your telling me they are advertising the entire capacity of the cell when they claim 20Mpbs? Its like buying an airplane ticket claiming you can have "up to" the whole airplane for yourself. Which obviously is never the case. How ****ing stupid.

LMAO
+1

Am I the only one that sees 2 "G's" in the marketing material?

Who cares? We just want more affordable broadband, period! Call it 10G if you like FFS!

I hereby decree that all future references to mobile broadband speeds & standards shall be made in terms of bra sizes.

All in favour say aye.

Edit: Scratch that. Decrees are not voted on, they are in force once decreed.

I really dont care for this whole debate- most people dont even know what 3G specifications are, let alone what 4G is supposed to do. for the majority of people its just a word. I think Vodacom and MTN are trying to find some way to knock the service because they not willing to compete on price

I care.

If Cell C hasn't even figured out what technology it is deploying and marketing, I question whether they should be allowed to receive money in exchange for utter B$ shoved down the throats of consumers.

There has to be a line somewhere and Cell C has definitely crossed a line.

Just don't use Cell C for your braodband then? Duh...

Vodacom and MTN are just sour.

If and when Vodacom released their "4G" it wouldnt have been up to stardards/price anyways. Vodacom is probably just peeved because their marketing team was beaten to the punch.

CellC (or any other operator) should be prevented from using the term "4Gs" from a purely technological perspective.

4G is not here yet, so not matter how you spin it, it does not exist outside of a laboratory.

Ultimately its implementation that matters for bragging rights, not the rubbish the marketing dept dreams up.

On that side, I think VC is leading, MTN close second and CellC somewhere in the Dark Ages.

People, it was a marketing stunt... as has been said before in this post, it's "4Gs" .. and the media fell for it hook, line and sinker. Mission accomplished.

As a techie type, I don't like the "4G" implication, but the campaign wasn't aimed at me. It was aimed at Joe Average.
