Hey,

I'm going to upgrade our ADSL next month from 384K to 4MB (Yay!). Just wanted to know how long this process takes (could ask Telkom, but would like to know from personal experience!).

Thanks!

How about you upgrade me too? ;)

Should be instant but knowing Telkom, it could take a few hours ;)

Depends if the Exchange Supports higher speeds, I had to wait a few months till they upgraded the exchange.

If you phone them they should have it done by the time you put your phone down.

Sweet, thanks a lot. Hope the exchange supports it. Checked my SNR ratio and attenuation, and I'm good to go on this side. Hold thumbs for me:)

however upgrading when your line is with a ISP takes longer it seems. I'm into day 2 now. I know it should be faster cause when I was with Telkom. I upgraded and it was instant. Then I moved to uncapped 384k. But Now got money to upgrade to 4mb but day 2 and still waiting!

i'm also upgraded my line today.
was told by the telkom helpline that it takes 2 days for the upgrade to come into effect.
so by monday it should be fine, just in time for the new month purchases of Afrihost!
just hope their 2 for 1 special is still running!

Howzit Wessie, not too long. I applied for a self install as second line and when I followed it up a few days later it was already done without me knowing!

Ditto. I took the plunge a few months ago. ALso from 384 --> 4M

Phone them at work, when I got home, reset the router and was up and running at 4M

Guise, can I upgrade to 4mbit?

Up/Down
Line Attenuation: 35.5 db/19.5 db
Noise Margin: 34.5 db/21 db

I know my exchange says thet can support it, but I have a feeling it's only gonna be 1mbit.

This is what my router say.

Attainable Rate (Kbps): 9632 860
SNR Margin (dB): 30.3 17.0
Attenuation (dB): 39.0 22.0

So I'm sure you will at least be able to get 4Mbps and even 8Mbps

Hey cavedog mate :)
Yeah I'm gonna tell them to put me on the 4mbit package. Should I tell them my SNR and Attentuation is good enough?

Hey hey whazup. :-)

Its not necessary. they will put you on the 4mbps profile if your exchange supports it. They will only put you on 1mbps if you have a real bad line or you are very far from the exchange. But with those stats you shouldn't have any problems.

Good, and you? :D

I did a self install, and before I confirmed my line, I saw 1024kbits as the sync speed. After verification is dropped to 384kbits which is what I was paying for.
I don't know if I'm far from the DSLAM or not. I've tried checking but they don't tell you the location of it for security reasons.

I'm also upgrading from a 512 to a 4meg and apparently my line is now synced on the 4 meg profile according to Telkom but my router shows 512. I'm pretty sure this is just because of the package i'm on with Nashua though. If i want to run to separate accounts on one Router eg One Telkom Do3 and one Afrihost account. how do i switch between the two? I know its a noob question, sorry
