5850 price drop!!!

Damn retailers marking up by R1000!!!
Anyone in contact with a distributor (ie: Axiz/Rectron) and can tell us prices from them?

Its not the retailer marking the prices up....AFAIK it's the SUPPLIERS that are milking it atm so we are stuck with these k@k prices for now....
 
anyone know if features like video encoding and features that split load between cpu and gpu will make its way onto the radeon 4890?
 
hmmm, AMD seems to be competing with themselves :confused:. lol

I wonder if our supplies are using a R10:$1 ratio? It would make sense, because as it stands, everyone is getting their cut with a R10:$1 ratio...

However, if this is true, then that would be a very big issue. and the suppliers are making an absolute killing. Perhaps it's about time that we boycott or sewed them :)

The Vapor-X is a 2GB version? I saw a review on Toms that did tests on the amount of ram needed for GPU's. At 1920x1080 and lower resolution there were no differences between the cards having 512MB, 1GB or 2GB of DDR5 ram. Except for one and only one game, GTAIV.

The HD5850 comes fitted with 1GB ram minimum though so the card already has more ram than it'll need.

I'm telling you, we are still paying too much. lets assume the exchange rate is R8:$1, and just a quick sure on newegg (1 minute search) and I see a HD5870 for $379, which equates to R3032! plus 14% vat =3456, plus 20% (markup) and you have a R4100... wait, um, that's very close to the price we playing, and that newegg price includes their markup and suppliers, and transport yadda yadda yadda. It's always like this though, SA, land of the f**ked and f**ked over

Now I don't know where you guys get your facts but the 5850 Vapor-X is not even out yet and likely to come with 1GB (and 2GB) revision(s) like the 4890 Vapor-X(the same one I currently own but which comes 1GB).

I agree.....but the R3900 from Landmark and even the R4000 from Prophecy is al least in line with the recommended "ripoff" price by AMD. What irks me a bit is Henks comments that the price from prophecy is something we won't see for many months to come:rolleyes:

Lol, that comment is basically saying that we will be ripping you off for quite a while now, so get your lube ready as we enjoy f**king you over and there is nothing you can do about it <insert evil laugh>
