7.2 Mbps HSDPA with bandwidth rollover

I for one am happy about the "up to 60 day" data bundles. Still have an E220, with the default firmware, should probably look to upgrade the firmware now, but I understood that it can only do 1.8 anyway, or does the firmware upgrade enable 3.6?.

I am on PP now, was on a contract, but monitor my usage religiously, so won't be going with -A just yet. Might reconsider if prices drop enough.

Your E220 will do 3.6 out of the box and 7.2 with a firmware upgrade.

Thanks for clearing that up v3g. I am interested in 7.2, will run a speedtest to see again how close I get to 3.6, and then decide if the -A is worth my while.

I am interested in the possible speed increase, which if good enough, will make me move to 7.2. I realize that it isn't guaranteed, and like I said, will check first.

So basically 7.2 is enabled on all towers, but whether they can deliver 7.2 is a different matter all together based on the back-haul achilles heel?

In other words some towers are too small and it's Telkom's fault.

And to think I cancelled all my Telkom lines so I wouldn't have to hear from them again.

Telkom will be in everyone's future for decades still.

Even though Vodacom has 11 fiber rings in place (compare 1 yellow one ;)) and are building a national fiber network with MTN and Neotel, it'll be a VERY long time before all Telkom links are replaced.

Remember Telkom had decades to build fixed line infrastructure and irrespective of how much money you throw at the problem, neither Vodacom, nor MTN, can just replace it overnight. If only....

While the metros are easier (and thus the first areas for the fiber rings), its not so easy to run a line to the more outlying areas. Right-of-way being a huge hurdle, for example.

Thus we (all the operators) still continue to order back-haul from Telkom and will do so for a while still. Problem is Telkom can't keep up with the demand and we sit with the situation that MTN, Vodacom and others have thousands of back orders waiting to go in.

And of course Telkom have their own needs for back-haul now, to compete with Neotel, MTN and Vodacom.

Please answer my post #221.

A reply to the second paragraph will be appreciated at least.
Maybe the first part is too close to the truth.
I notice that you are very selective in choosing items to comment on. IMHO

"Exactly why we dropped the OOB c/MB rate so drastically (between 50 and 80%) with BB-A."

I would like Vodacom to back up their logic with data user figures. I've stated it before that VC seems to have created BB-A to appease a relative minority of their data customers.(>2gb/month)
What percentage of your Data Customers will actually benefit by BB-A?
Is Vodacom trying to charge the consumers extra for the fact that they claim to have superior coverage - I think so!

Also, I have a contract with VC and my data bundle kicks in on the first of the month. By delaying your rollover date till the 5th you have effectively screwed all your contract customers as the rollover will only kick in as from the 1st May. Is this correct or have I missed something?

Lets hope your next step is more in line with the "real" not "perceived" requirements of you customer base.

You have missed something.

I have no problem to comment on clearly formatted, logical questions. Even if they're tough. You mostly made accusations.

But I've answered your one question.

Yup, got it on my to do list. Just need to clear the two items above it (peace in the Middle East and trying to understand MidnightWizards' posts).

But Item 3 might actually come sooner than the other 2. ;)

Hehehe, funny how David beat Goliath ;)

Hi,

3days ago I signed up for the 2GB Advanced Package (7.2) . Run speed tests on the Advance and speed tests on the Normal (3.6) and am getting the same results. I have a Novatel MC950D 7.2 compat. Data Card.

My Avg download is speed is 3000kbps and upload 700kbps.

My signal shows as ecellent with HSUPA. I phoned Vodacom to confirm that the tower is 7.2 enabled and he said it is.

Can any1 else post their results for the New Advanced 7.2MB offer from Vodacom.

So has Vodacom really upgraded their towers or is there maybe something im missing?

Use MDMA and see what profile you get. It should show the 7.2 profile.

GotTrend, try using a download manager & download a slightly large local file and see what speeds you get.
