7.2 Mbps HSDPA with bandwidth rollover

Instead of all This mumbo jumbo I think people would of been happier with a simple price drop.

but it's not dropped - you made OOB cheaper but increased the Bundle price dramatically.

If Vodacom calls that innovation then call me billy and spank me with a USB cable.
 
On the prepaid version:

If you take out a 2GB bundle on the first of January, I understand you continue to have access to that data until the 28th of February even if you don't buy any further bundles between 1 Jan and 28 Feb.

However, if you deplete that bundle in Feb I take it you don't then get the good OOB rates?

Do the numbers and check the %IB increase vs. the %OOB decrease. ;)

For example on the 1GB, IB went from 28 to 38 but OOB dropped from 120 to 38. So you pay 10c/MB more IB, but you pay 82c/MB LESS on OOB.

Again, if you don't go OOB, stay on the normal tariffs. This is then not for you.

Think you might be right, but it's a good question. Let me check. Might be that you run at the original rate for the full period.

I'm trying to come up with some kind of prepaid version where the consumer can come out ahead (i.e. by just buying a double size bundle at the beginning of every second month, thus getting the same as the old pricing but with the flexibility of OOB). However, I do personally doubt the OOB rate would still apply. :)

Ok, so to get that clear in my mind:

If under the old regime I was getting a 1GB bundle every month for R289, I could now buy a single 2GB bundle for R599 every second month.

That would give me access to that 2GB bundle, and the OOB rates if I depleted it, over the full two month period (providing I bought it on the 1st).

So in effect I could get 1GB for "R299 per month" with 7.2 and better OOB rates than on the real 1GB pacakge?

Edit: And if so, is there any other benefit to buying a bundle every month? Other than not having to buy it on the first.

On BB-S you'd buy a 1Gb bundle for R289. If you go OOB, you pay R1.20/MB.

If you go OOB by 150MB you would have paid (289 + 150 x 1.20 =) R469.

If you were on BB-A, it would have cost you R446 on the flat rate.

And obviously the more you go OOB, the more you score over BB-S.

So, if you're going to exceed your bundle by more than this %, BB-A is actually cheaper.

But if you NEVER go OOB, stay on BB-S.

Ahh, ok I see how you've worked you calculations out - you started with the same bundle size on both.

I was working my figures on starting with the same bundle cost:
Eg.
BBS - 2GB@ R389
BBA - 1GB@ R389

Now if you work the above out, you would first have to go over 1GB in OOB (@ an additional R389) on BBA to get anywhere near the same cost and data usage on both.

I currently use 1GB @ R289 per month. So for me getting a 2GB @ R389 for 60 days (I normally get my bundle on the first) works out to 1GB @ R194.50 per month.

Yup, I agree with your interpretation.

Effectively for R10 per month you've got a OOB rate of 38c/MB against the previous R1.20 per month.
 
I have read through a few of the posts in this thread and there is one thing that I really don't understand.

MTN offered a product with more or less the same but they were flamed for it. Now, Vodacom offers the same and it gets welcomed???

Somethings I'll just never understand!

There is no "7.2VAS", so it cannot be added to BB-S or subtracted from BB-A.
