7.2mb Really?

The whole reason why Broadband Advanced was conjured up was so that we don't have to spend another trip to the shop to buy another bundle at the same price/Meg, and for that convenience we have to fork out more money for a bundle.
Fixed that for you.

I haven't been Vodaconned simply because I bothered to ask a few questions. V3G however said "You also get roll over + 7.2" and "ALL 3G towers have both 3.6 and 7.2..."

NO coverage map is available to show where there is ACTUAL 7.2 coverage?

I repeat, slapping a speedometer that reads to 350km/h into a red Fiat doesn't make it a Ferrari...

You still don't get it? Or do you just plainly ignore my responses to your posts?

HSDPA 7.2 is a product, not a speed. All Vodacom 3G towers have HSDPA 7.2 enabled and thus there is only one coverage map.

Vodacom, nor MTN or any other network can make speed claims. Thus you will not find speed claims anywhere, so I'm a bit lost what you want to take to the ASA?

I've posted more than once that the primary differentiator between BB-S and BB-A is the rating system. BB-A does have the HSDPA 7.2 product as well but no-one is making any speed claims.

Except you.

okay Wow dude using sms language is perfectly acceptable to me but using normal language like That with those mistakes not on dude!! Rather stick to Mxit language. Much easier to understand :) And i dont think this BBA Is ideal for the average consumer. But for larger operations it sounds like a good idea.

@GotTrend, you did not answer my question:Here is v3g's 7.2 speed testing methodology, which I suggest that you adopt:Look at the throughput [speed], that the bandwidth monitor application you're using, says you are actually getting during such concurrent downloads.

Hi IC,

Will give DUMeter a try and see what I get

Used Du Meter Stop watch, and ran 5 different speed tests at once. Burnt quite a few of my megs but Results were interesting:D

Maximum transfer rate -
Incoming: 4.2Mbps
Outgoing: 2.5Mbps

The part I dont understand is that technically my Novatel MC950D is a 7.2/2.1 device, so how is it I go upto 2.5?

Anyways, maybe what needs an upgrade is vodacoms speed test page;) Though of all all the speed test sites, vodacom's one gives the highest results... So the question I would like answered is are speed tests accurate? Or are they too short to get to the maximum speed?

It most likely will give the highest results. Actually it *should* never give lower results than any other test.

Firstly, we had it tweaked to do multi-threaded tests to try and exercise a high speed modem better. Most other test sites are (or should) also be doing this.

Secondly, it's the closest to you of all speed tests, and is on the Vodacom network. So it should give you the performance of the 'Vodacom' portion of the network.

Make sure your DUMeter is set up to only monitor your modem. Looks like its counting LAN traffic as well.

Got 4mb dnload on the graph, the speed test is prob 2 short. Maybe will try with a download manager and see what I get with multiple downloads. Just have to go easy on my data usage cause these tests are chowing my cap fast:/

Sorry Sir... Sir, I do humbly apologize for not getting your responses sir...

Sir, may i ask a question sir?

Sir, what does the 7.2 in your "HSDPA 7.2" product refer to sir? Sir, I now know it does not refer to a speed sir, but what is the 7.2 then sir?

No problem, but you know this topic have been discussed a lot over the last few years and you've been active in those threads.

As posted many times before, 1.8, 3.6 and 7.2 refers to the type of technology your modem must support to be able to receive the service.

So to get the HSDPA 7.2 service, your modem must support the correct modulation schemes for it. Typically the only way you'll know this is to look at the manufacturers specifications who will list it as 7.2.

As a crude analogy, when you buy a BMW 325, the name does not carry any indication of speed or power output. Higher numbers tend to indicate more advanced products (a 540 is a higher spec than a 316) but the number itself does not carry performance specifications, at best capacity.

So just like you get a BMW 318, 325 or 528, you get 3G, HSDPA 1.8, HSDPA 3.6 and HSDPA 7.2 products.

It's a product name, not a speed.

Again, Vodacom does not make speed claims for any of it's products, nor is it allowed to. The ASA stopped all networks from making 'up to' type of claims a few years ago.

Hope this clears it up for you.

And, just one more time :)

BB-A is all about a flat-rate tariff, not about getting a higher speed.

Omg, vodacom :confused::confused::confused: ???

So I got a reply on my complaint that I made last week that I was not seeing any speeds greater than 3.6 after buying a VBBA 2gb package.

Last week there were a number of people from vodacom that confirmed the tower in my area is 7.2. Then they eventually said they will send some1 out to check. Now they call me and say that the tower has actually not been upgraded yet and that they will refund me the difference in price between the 2 packages.

Can you believe this..... Are they lying to us, or they just dont have a clue whats going on? And I wasnt only dealing with the call centre people, I was dealing directly with the technicians/network guys or who ever they are.

For me, if they were prepaired to refund the difference that says something is not right. Anyways, Im glad about the refund, but I still would like to really see speeds of 3.6 - 7.2 soon

All towers are on HSDPA 7.2.

You got them confused (and thus scored a refund :)) by talking to them about 7.2Mb/s which is something else. See above.

I know if I switch from the 3.6Mbps service to the 7.2Mpbs service, I'll get a nice increase in speed. Cos I did the speed test and actually got 3.9Mbps speed....which is what V3G said would be a indication if you will be able to get the higher speeds.

Just keep in mind that I had 5 bar reception on my Vodafone E172 modem. When I ran the test with 4 bar reception, the speed dropped to 3.1Mbps.

So do not expect 6Mbps with a 2 bar signal on the 7.2Mbps service.

@kinrob

Not realy, my cards 3.6 and my bars r always 1 or nuthin and dipending on wot i downlode I get a constint 200KB/s. :)
