Morning My'bbers...

I want upgrade my Asus 7850 DirectCU 2gb 256bit card. Now seeing some reviews on AMD's R9 280x and AMD 7970 cards I want to know what the difference is between the cards and which one will be the better purchase?

the cheapest one they the same card, think R9280x powercolor is the cheapest atm.

I flashed my 7970 with R9280x bios running nicely :P

Also have a Powercolor 7970, care to share what steps you followed to update the BIOS?

@ razor88 - thanks for the link.I see the 7850 stil has a little grunt left on 1080p with most stuff maxed out.But with regards to future specs that games are gonna need i think it's now the time to make the jump....

What will you be doing with your current 7850? Did you overclock it?

I'm currently running a GTX 460 and its starting to struggle...

now another quick question...seeing as the 7950 is also 384 bit card that's little detuned from what I see.Does the 7970 and 7950 show remarkable difference from one another?

As far as I know, next gen consoles only use a rough equivalent of the HD 7870

I have a Powercolor 7950 (Boost edition), and a stock FX-8320, and I am currently playing the Crysis 3 campaign without any noticable lag on max settings ( AA is on medium though). I haven't measured frames per second, but it's not really taking away from my experience (maybe I'm just not one to notice).

I doubt there will be many future games that will be more taxing than Crysis 3, so I reckon you are safe with the HD 7950(With boost).

https://www.dropbox.com/s/qam8t58eoeuo4ce/R9 280x mod tool.rar

Download the tool i made and run the batch file will do everything for you to make your card a R9 280x

The bios I include is the one from the msi R9280x gaming edition which is working on a powercolor 7970.( should work on most REF design cards)

Just make a backup of your bios with gpuz before hand, then you can flash it back if it fails to boot , by replacing the orig.bin file with your bios file.

The 7970 has dual bios so if it fails , just boot from the other one.

Is there an R9 series bios I can flash to my 7950?
