Download the tool i made and run the batch file will do everything for you to make your card a R9 280x
The bios I include is the one from the msi R9280x gaming edition which is working on a powercolor 7970.( should work on most REF design cards)
Just make a backup of your bios with gpuz before hand, then you can flash it back if it fails to boot , by replacing the orig.bin file with your bios file.
The 7970 has dual bios so if it fails , just boot from the other one.

now another quick question...seeing as the 7950 is also 384 bit card that's little detuned from what I see.Does the 7970 and 7950 show remarkable difference from one another?
Anywhere I can check for 7850 vs 7970 tests?
I flashed my 7970 with R9280x bios running nicely![]()
Bleugh, multiple monitors don't work for me under the R9 BIOS. Revert.
I'm pondering if it would be worth the hassle. (My card is already overclocked to a stable 1150 1600 without any voltage increases).
Any noticeable increase in FPS from the flash in your games?
Also did it affect your overclocking for better or worse (if you overclock) after the flash? There is a compatible bios available for my 7970 Ghz Sapphire Vapor X and I'm pondering if it would be worth the hassle. (My card is already overclocked to a stable 1150 1600 without any voltage increases).
So I was bored and seeing that my card has a dual bios I decided to try the R9 280X Sapphire Bios a spin anyway.
Works perfectly and still maintains my stable overclock at 1150. Max core also seems to be 1175.
Currently using the Win 8.1 Beta drivers and will test it extensively over the next couple of days/weeks.

Edit: Interestingly after running 3D Mark Firestrike my scores, with the same overclocks, improved from 7802 to 8097.
This has highlighted my potential need to "finish" my upgrade.
My Fire Strike score was at 6111. This is a dramatic improvement from the 3087 with my 5870, but a far cry from your scores.
I know my PC's innards are dated, but didn't think they would have THAT large of an impact...
7950 to 7970 not so much , just overclock the 7950 to around 1100 core
