Hi there

I just ordered myself an ipad 2 (thanks FNB)

I see that 8ta have an ipad data promo, I went to speak to the guys at the istore on the weekend, and they said I must speak to the guys at the 8ta store.... yet on the 8ta website, it says you must have the ipad activated at the istore....

Anyone done this before? What is the process? And how do you load more data when needed?

Thanks in advance.

Why do you need ipad2 data promo? Request prepaid micro-SIM and you are free to go with one of GoBIG special 10Gig contract or 2G+1 data bundle. Just check 8ta coverage, as these promotions are non-roaming.

Hi

We do apologise for the confusion.

First get yourself an 8ta prepaid Micro SIM from any of our 8ta outlets.
Ask them to RICA it for you (as a normal 8ta prepaid).
Once done, please email the 8ta number, your iPad IMEI and contact details to [email protected].
Once, we have done our bit, you will then be able to register on the iPad Registration page https://home.8ta.com/ipadreg
Once registered, you will then be able to login here https://home.8ta.com/ipad

Please make reference to this post.

Thank you

Check and make sure your house falls within a coverage area. im not so lucky in Somerset West

The GoBIG only works on the 8TA network where the iPad bundles work on 8TA and MTN!

I also have the same problem, unfortunately they didnt tell me this at the store. They just RICA'd and loaded R150 onto the micro sim (want to use the 3Gig prepaid special on my iPad).
Please assist, i have emailed my details to the above email address.

Thanks in advance

When can we get dual sims on the Internet 5 promo? Ideal solution for me.

Hi, we do not currently allow more than one SIM per contract.
We are looking into providing a similar service in the near future.
Thank you

Thanks. I know you currently do not have it. You'll notice I asked when it will be available ;)

Where can I get a 8ta pre-paid micro sim, no one in Pretoria has stock, only have for contract customers.

I recently bought a 8ta prepaid sim for my ipad (from a Spar) and added talk time, data bundle, etc. using a USB modem. I then cut it down to size. I now need to be able to topup and check balances etc. Tried to register online, but eventually found out that I needed to have purchased the sim at an istore.

EDIT. Sorted myself out by removing the sim from the iPad and inserting it into a mini sim socket in a USB modem, and then using the normal USSD commands. You need to push it in carefully with an equal gap on either side and don't push it all the way in. I suppose one could use a bit of nylon line (fishing line?) around it while pushing it in to make it easier to get out.

EDIT2. Inserted the iPad micro sim together with the iPad sim holder into the sim socket. Push it all the way in and then pull it out about 1mm. Modem I used was a Huawei E1752. Tight fit but seems acceptable.

Does one get micro sim USB modems yet?

Seems like a whole lotta effort. If you get a microsim from an 8TA or Telkom (they're free) it comes with an adapter.

That is what will happen when my airtime and data bundle expires (next month).

I am a little confused, why go the prepaid way with 8ta and an iPad, when the 10GB contract makes more sense, I got a SIM some months ago, before the mini-SIMs were available, from Telkomdirect, the chap cut it with the SIM cutter, it works in the iPad and in my CellC dongle when I use my laptop, so I am as happy as can be, also, no speed or network issues whatsoever, download speeds are amazing, I upgraded 10 colleagues's iPads to iOS5 without a single interruption ever......way to go!

Does the 10Gb contract allow you to roam on MTN?

AFAIK it's all 8ta, the SIM works fine in a CellC dongle, and tells you its on 8ta network; have not had any MTN messages/network.....and on the iPad its all 8ta....so why are you thinking MTN?
