8ta speeds suck! Report here... [solved!]

Have been pretty happy with 8ta. Until today. Speeds are 0.5 down and 0.05 up. Ping is 1145ms.

Previously the best speed i got was 9mbs and ping of less than 50ms.
Averaging between 3-5mbps usually.

What the hell is going on with 8ta. Over time it seems to have gotten worse and worse. It has moments of brilliance, but it doesnt last very long. And now this to a local server:

That is absolutely unacceptable speed and latency. Any other ISP would be in deep deep trouble with their customers with such results and make an official statement as to why the service is struggling all over. It seems I'm not the only one with problems. The 8ta network is falling apart and there must be a reason for it!
 
Same here.

Very high pings, very slow speeds....had to get a Vodacom 20 GB data bundle. :(

Yeah mine sucks donkey b@lls lately. Speedtest 0.19mbs down 0.50mbs up. This has been going on for 3 months, it's ultra slow and then improves for a week, then slow again. What are our options here guys? 8ta doesn't seem to care very much.

Edit: I'm in Randburg, Ferndale.
 
Ow! I was getting 1000 + latency last night. It seems to me some thing happened to their national network on the weekend, considering every one else seems to complaining about the same thing.

I did test it before I left for work this morning, mine seems to be back to it's normal latency again. I Don't know what happened to their network but they should at least let their customers know about it :(
 
Dunnow what everyone's problem is; I'm getting this with 2-bars of signal strength on a Huawei E230:

Upload is poor on speedtest.net. If I upload something to my Skydrive/Megaupload/etc, it runs at about 820Kb/s according to Network Meter gadget.

I played Red Dead Redemption online this whole weekend and did not DC once or had lag problems?
 
Okay so after yesterdays lagfest, it seemed they sorted it out today...all was good until just 10mins ago. Now my speeds and latency took a massive dip again. My biggest problem is the reliability of this service, if its gonna be crap then be crap, but it obviously has the potential to fly, so why is it so up and down?? Is 8ta shaping our connections at certain times? Capacity issues? I would like some answers as to why it is so inconsistent. I know its 3g, not expecting adsl type stability, but it is extremely unstable now for the last 3 weeks, fluctuating from great to utter rubbish a few times every single day.

I can basicly only use the service as it was advertised and what I am paying for at certain times and not know when it is going to be crap again, we all know its going to become unusable just a matter of when. And that SUCKS!

Yep my latency was also running ok 10 minutes ago but now it's back to the weekend problem :cry:

Where are you situated Effjh, as a matter of interest ?

Cape Town, Plattekloof area. I have a feeling its a wider network issue on their side and not really tower related. They might be throttling us, just wish the 8ta rep would be so kind as to inform us on what the issue is.
 
8ta latency is skyrocketing! Expected to hit 5 seconds by december.

First week I had 8ta, the ping was BRILLIANT (40ms) :D

I posted in another thread but saw that this one has more posts. Just wanted to add my voice to the 'wtf has happened to 8ta in the last couple weeks?' rant. I have seen my WoW latency increase from 250ms to 1500ms gradually over the last week. I have two routers, both of which are highly rated, and same result on both. Tonight i may as well be using a tin can and a string. I make that joke knowing that the 8ta rep has no idea what a tin can and a string could be used for. Or a router for that matter :/
