I am really keen on getting this and it will mean that I have to get a bigger attena to achieve this cause my house is just outside the region like in a few houses or a block.

Now in getting this I will be the link from my house to the section of the suburb not covered yet so my questionsare.

1. Without setting up a highsite could I just add a stronger attenna to my roof to link the people that is outside the range.

2. What is the pros and cons with having a WUG I know its for gaming between the community but what else do you use it for?

Thanks

Lots of guys have torrents available, so you can easily find trial software that is fairly large and is downloaded already. For example, Windows 7 RC1 that is freely available, I am sure someone on the WUG had it.

I am also very keen on connecting to WUG, still trying to figure out how I am going to install my equipment as I live in a complex.

Hey Acid0,

Come into the IRC channel (#wnet or #ptawug - if you are based in pta) on our irc server irc.wug.za.net.

Also, have a quick read through the getting started guide located at www.wug.za.net.

Hope to see you soon!

I am in Jhb and I dl the coverage and see I am just outside the red covereage line and there is alot of people on my side of the fence that are planning so ireckoned if I setup the can connect via me.

I am very keen on getting this and I was just wondering of all the benfits.

Acid0, the "red or yellow coverage" areas are merely a guesstimate... don't stress too much if you are not "inside" one!

I am situated in Glen Marais in Kempton Park.

I know there is planned high sites all around me ranging from 100m to 1 Km.
But so far it is still just planned sites.

1km is very close, there are people linking from Kempton Park, 17km to PTAWUG Rietvallei highsite

I wonder if someone can help me, if I am within the red shading area of a highsite, does that mean I can pick up the signal? Or do I still need LOS?

you always need LOS, even if you are 50m from a highsite, if there is a building in the way and you have no LOS, it wont work.

good clear LOS is more important to have than a short distance.

Sad news talking about the LOS I only realised that I have a tall building at tyhe back of my house so I wont even see the high sites in Glen Marais. I wonder if I will be able to detect any other signals?

Is there a way I can check manualy if I can see a high site?

Protzkrog you have Pm

Come onto the wug site (www.wug.za.net) and plot your node.
Check the KML after you've plotted and do a LOS calc to nodes around you. If you do not have LOS to a highsite, maybe you can connect to another node if he/ she is willing to. I can bet you right now that every wugger won't mind being a transit node.

Hope this help a bit. Jump over to the wug site and read the getting started guide. It is your first step to getting urself wugged.
