This Mail issue was driving me up the wall. Not what I’d call ‘easy’, ‘logistical’ or even ‘just works’ - but finally works
My thing is generally I'm not deleting or actioning anything from the summary view.I have it set to delete with a long swipe in both directions, no way to feck up that way.

One of the best features of Apple Mail over everything else are the arrows in the top right corner to just directly from one mail to the next and I use it like that most of the time.

Pity, I really like it.I also use my Gmail in Mail, however sometimes I need to use the Gmail app for its more powerful search functionality.
