Hi gents

I'm considering going over to FNB, I qualify for their Young Professional accounts. (LINK)

I'm mainly interested in their ebucks/rewards for fuel.
I spend about R350+ on fuel per week. So any savings would be nice.
Their smart device offerings are also tempting.

I am currently with ABSA on a silver cheque account.

How much would I save on fuel? I don't really know how ebucks works. Can I fuel up with ebucks credits?
I will look a bit deeper into the bank fees, but ABSA cost me about R80pm currently, and FNB charge at least R140 for unlimited, or R40 for PAYG.

Thanks
Mulen

Thing to remember, you don't get cash back for fuel like with ABSA. eBuck isn't money in your pocket same way cash is. In that respect ABSA is better.

Wife is with them (ABSA) and the fuel rewards alone make it worth it for her to stay.

I'm with FNB and earn eBucks on my traveling, but I have to admit I like the ABSA rewards better when it comes to this.

I'll check out ABSA's rewards then. I did search for Fuel rewards on their website a while back, and the only information I got was a Fuel Card, and I didnt see benefits for it. So I just thought it was a card you deposit money into for fuel, which I thought wouldn't benefit me much.

I also like FNB's smart device offerings, but at the moment cutting down fuel costs interests me more.

Thank you

Although you don't get actual cash back, the potential reward rate on ebucks is significantly higher then Absa. I believe on Absa you get 5% back from sasol. But you are capped at R150 pm.

Thanks.
Seems my town doesnt have a Sasol, so I would get 0.25% cash back (maybe 0.5% because I have a cheque + credit card).
It doesn't seem worth it :(

I'm looking now at how ebucks works.
I see FNB has two banking fees options, unlimited and Pay as You Go. How often can you change between the two?

You can pay with your eBucks card for petrol at Engen. That's as good as cash in my books.

Thats a waste though. You can rather earn the eBucks by buying fuel on your credit card, then buy discounted Makro vouchers with your eBucks. Which are as good as cash but you get more of them ;-)

Yes of course, just pointing out the obvious to an ABSA fan. You can optimize and get lots more, yes.

Btw, I'm with ABSA and FNB and ABSA wants you to pay an annual fee for their rewards program, I declined.

Should you leave Absa?

**** yes!

I'd rather donate my money to a new Cecil John Rhodes statue than leave it in that bank.

We were loyal ABSA clients for 19 years and left due to ongoing incompetence, bad service and the exorbitant charges.

I have been with FNB for all my business banking for about 8 uears and use Standard for personal as they gave us best rate on our new home loan - so far very happy with both.

Got an FNB and Absa account. In the process of moving my Absa stuff over to FNB and dumping Absa.
The two banks can't even be compared.

Thanks gents.

Is it a lot of effort moving?
I'm not really available during business hours, and I heard on Saturdays our branch is usually packed.
Can I do it over the phone? Or the internet?

Just my personal account, I don't operate a business :P

I am moving a business account (personal already with FNB for a long time now). Doing it all myself. Don't trust anyone to do it on my behalf.
Invoices already going to the FNB business account, and slowly moving debit orders etc... over, SARS payments, etc...

Yes it is my man, just like any red tape beuacratic office, its messy but well worth it. This month alone i managed to earn myself R1700 worth of ebucks on a gold account, really..can you compare...and yes, it takes work but its oh so worth it.

I laugh at the people that move because of the silly "frills" that banks have come up with these days. I am with absa and have been for a while. I tried to go to fnb a year or so ago and I was shocked at the horrible service and even worse rates on loans I got from them, and this is with me being a platinum client. The thing is, you don't really know if a bank is going to be better after a move. For some people it is and others not. My colleague moved to them from NEDBANK recently and is also so upset with fnb and their service. Basically I would go with the bank that gives you what you really need from a bank, the lowest interest rates on your loans. That's where you'll save the most, not on the wishy washy rewards bla bla. Fnb tries too hard to push marketing and doesn't focus on their back end reliability.

I did the move 5 years ago, because of ABSA's high charges.
Downside for me with FNB is, they got high(est) interrest on CC and loans. So rather get a CC from Virgin or some place else. Had a personal loan with FNB, it felt like they were taking double the interest from me.

I had some negative experience with FNB over the last year, but I'll stick it out for now. Too lazy to move my debit orders and beneficiaries now.

Why do you want to get the young professional account? Its basically just platinum. My wife got that when she started working, and I got a Gold account (Some Graduate account. Dont know of they still have that).

She hasnt had any benefit above a gold account, but has paid more for her account.

We also dont spend enough money to make use of the higher eBucks levels that youll have access too on Platinum vs Gold. I have been able to move over to Platinum for a while but still havent.

I got the unlimited option as I jist swipe (almost never carry cash) and get ebucks. Get a credit card on the same level as you earn more ebucks with the credit card

My Mother dropped ABSA and Dads about to do the same.

Thanks for the replies gents :)

I will look into their Gold/Graduate account. Thank you.
I can't remember how I got to their Young Professional accounts, I was just looking to get cash back or some reward for my fuel costs.
When I looked into it, ABSA didn't offer me much rewards rewarding fuel. I only considered FNB because I would like to use their smart device offerings later this year, but I should probably also look into other banks.
I never really had an issue with ABSA to be honest.

I moved from ABSA to FNB in December due to convenience. ABSA's app always has an issue and their ATMs are so freakin slow.

I'm happy with my move...way more benefits with FNB. Even got myself a Macbook Air :) Love FNB.
