ABSA to FNB, worth it?

Thanks for the replies gents :)

I will look into their Gold/Graduate account. Thank you.
I can't remember how I got to their Young Professional accounts, I was just looking to get cash back or some reward for my fuel costs.
When I looked into it, ABSA didn't offer me much rewards rewarding fuel. I only considered FNB because I would like to use their smart device offerings later this year, but I should probably also look into other banks.
I never really had an issue with ABSA to be honest.

It's way easier to get to eBucks level 5 on Gold. On Platinum you're usually going to have to spend a lot more for the same benefit. The only benefit to platinum is the SLOW lounge thing, but since I don't make use of that enough, I downgraded to Gold...

Why do you want to get the young professional account? Its basically just platinum. My wife got that when she started working, and I got a Gold account (Some Graduate account. Dont know of they still have that).

She hasnt had any benefit above a gold account, but has paid more for her account.

We also dont spend enough money to make use of the higher eBucks levels that youll have access too on Platinum vs Gold. I have been able to move over to Platinum for a while but still havent.

I got the unlimited option as I jist swipe (almost never carry cash) and get ebucks. Get a credit card on the same level as you earn more ebucks with the credit card

My Mother dropped ABSA and Dads about to do the same.

I was going to suggest this. Platinum is only a carrot on a stick. There are no tangible benefits above a Gold account unless you really want to do to a SLOW lounge.

Some people also have card colour complexes, like they'd feel embarrassed to pull out anything less than platinum. I couldn't care less if it's making me money... :D

I've been with ABSA for over 10-years now and never had a reason to complain.

Always received good service from them and when I done a recent check, bank charges are pretty much equal.

I won't lie. The colour of my card did motivate me when I was fresh out of varsity but as you start appreciating the value of your own money you really don't care.

I laugh at the people that move because of the silly "frills" that banks have come up with these days. I am with absa and have been for a while. I tried to go to fnb a year or so ago and I was shocked at the horrible service and even worse rates on loans I got from them, and this is with me being a platinum client. The thing is, you don't really know if a bank is going to be better after a move. For some people it is and others not. My colleague moved to them from NEDBANK recently and is also so upset with fnb and their service. Basically I would go with the bank that gives you what you really need from a bank, the lowest interest rates on your loans. That's where you'll save the most, not on the wishy washy rewards bla bla. Fnb tries too hard to push marketing and doesn't focus on their back end reliability.

And on the other hand, there's a couple hundred FNB customers (on the forum) that are laughing at people like you.

FNB literally pays me to bank with them each month.

Please tell us more. How did you manage that?

I earned about eB5000 (R500) last month with little spending apart from the necessities like fuel and groceries. Banking fees are less than 1/5 of that on the unlimited plan...

Well that's cute. I get enough absa rewards to say the same. However, the difference in what I would pay in interest on loans at fnb would make the money you get in ebucks seem like a drop in a bucket. But it's fine, you're the type of client they're looking for. The one that doesn't care about what it actually costs to bank there.

I bank with Standard Bank & FNB. Also, I haven't visited a branch in years - which is perfect for me :)
That and I don't have any loans with FNB.

FNB Credit Card Rate: 12%

Then again Banking survey results & Awards speaks for itself.

Do you get up to 40% off when using your ABSA rewards?

Did you get prime - 1.05 on your bond instead of prime +1.2? Cause that was the difference between absa and fnb for me. Tell me which costs more? The money you get back in ebucks or being screwed in interest rates? While we're at it, the last time I wanted a personal loan from fnb they wanted to charge me 30% interest! Absa charges me 14%. I'd have to be swimming in ebucks to make up for that.

I'm actually on prime minus 2 on my bond. But whatever tickles your fancy, Maria... ;)

Well princess, if you go back and look at my original post I said to go with whatever bank gives you the best interest. So fnb gave you the best interest. Good for you.

You're making it seem as if everyone gets a bad interest rate from FNB just because you got one. Banks offer different rates to different clients, and which bank offers you the best rates will differ per person.

Please explain to us what Ab$a rewards you get on a monthly basis and what your banks restrictions are to obtain this and what your banking fees are.
