Those things are awesome, they can send or receive but where can you buy them, they were selling for R399 at one time.
 
Op I'm pretty sure you can get a BMW compatible bt adapter on ebay or some upgrade code that unlocks the full bt capabilities of the oem headunit?

So ideally something that I can plug into the aux, and then also to the USB to charge and just forget about it

I charge it each week by plugging it into a pc.
 
Why not just load your music into a memory stick and use the USB port?


This would give you the best sound that your system can offer and will allow access to the music selection, volume, etc via the built in controls on the steering wheel.

Ye, FM signal. Works flipping well - and completely disguised as a dual usb charger. Considering it replaced a dual usb charger anyway, it was pure win for me.

The configuration of the FM signal is done via an app on your phone.

I've had really disappointing results with the cheapo FM transmitters that are locally available. I thought the poor reproduction was due to the technology used, but maybe the manufacturers just used low-end components to keep the price down. You say this Roidmi does a good job of transmitting the tunes? Would you rate the final reproduction as being as good as Bluetooth to Bluetooth?

Agreed. Also tried the local ones (just 2), and they were terrible.
I have seen good things said about Xiaomi, so figured I would give it a bash. Very pleasantly surprised.

I was tricky initially to find a frequency that was solid, but we found one.

In the 2 months I have been using this, only once have we had interference from a local FM broadcast. It passed within minutes though.

Sometimes when the volume is loud, you can hear a slight hiss in quiet passages. Not much of a bother though.

Aside from the above, extremely impressed. It exceeded my expectations, and am now also a fan of Xiaomi products. The actual quality of the audio is fantastic to say the least.

Short version... Yes to your questions.

Best thing I found was an RF modulator, which plugs inline into the antenna, and has an aux in. It needs a little more work - you have to pull the head unit out, plug this into the unit, and plug the antenna into the modulator, and give it a power source, but it's 100% clear, no interference.
 
Thanks for this info Claymore, I didn't know such devices existed.

I've already ordered a Roidmi charger/transmitter - at $14 I'll just use it as a charger if the audio quality is not good enough.
