ADSL cap: how much is too much?

I have been using a local wireless supplier for about 3 years now
My speed is a fairly low 256 kb when compared to the ADSL connections, but I don't have a cap on my account

I average about 50 gigs per month for a cost of R400

For me the ADSL option means I read my emails super fast and that is my cap for the month

Dude - what WISP are you on? I am on Amobia and I have never gone above 25GB cause then I am already looking at R2000+

Is anyone else disgusted that in the last 7years caps haven't increased?

Well, some years ago I remember people saying on Myadsl that if you were using more than a couple of Gig you were ABUSING THE SYSTEM.

And I also remember having a conversation where somebody who was saying that, because the Internet was a toy and generally irrelevant to black people, that Telkom's charges should be far higher to squeeze the wealthy Internet users.

Times change, eh?

3 Gig, is too damn little, though. Especially if Ubuntu release another version, plus VoIP, etc.

How many of you complainers are actually telkom isp subscribers?
I get between the 4.5 and 5GB per month. I'm quite happy, wouldn't mind more for some torrents but for normal web surfing I don't go close to my cap.

Hello, you just found a white elephant and a red herring at the same time.

I read that whole thread. It most definitely did not get out of hand.

Depends on your definition of getting out of hand..

Some of the views expressed where inappropriate and inhumane and if the thread was not closed it would of def got out of hand in every sense of that word..

Just stop capping us Telscum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No TO CAPS!!!!!!!!!!!!

FREAK!!!

4Mbps(512KBps) line 3GB Cap -> TAFC=6144 seconds, POM=0.233%

If I understand what your doing correctly, your doing it wrong, remember a 4mbps line does not download 4mb of data in 1 second, there are overheads associated with data transfer.

Every packet/frame has header and footer information that needs to be accounted for. Does anyone know what this is for ADSL?

I have a fibre connection 10Mbps up and down, uncapped - cost R5 500 to set up, and R630 per month - and I live in a small village of 19000 people about 250kms from the capital. :D

Oh, yes, not in SA....
in Norway. :)
Makes a change from the 256kbps ADSL line with 2GB cap for R550 per month I got in Cape Town 2 months ago!
Maybe with Ivy out of the way SA can actually join the Internet!
