Can anyone explain what happens physically when Telkom activates their ADSL service on your line. Are there manual changes at the exchange, do they flip a switch, push a button, what? I assumed its just a digital switch they have to hit.
I am currently in the process of getting ADSL activated on my telkom line. When i say currently it has been 4 weeks now. I have been told many things regarding why it has been so problematic, i'm trying to understand where the complexity comes in.
More info regarding my problem - if you have a week to read see below, or just ignore. I'm just venting.
During the course of my adsl activation attempts a number of problems arose.

During the course of my adsl activation attempts a number of problems arose.
- The first time they activated the adsl on my line it took a week. I received an sms, and that night discovered my line (voice and all) was dead.
- 2 Weeks later and numerous calls during mid-day to find out if i was home (DURING THE WEEK???) i got the voice line fixed - apparently a short circuit.
- Had to re-activated dsl on my line, and now i have no ADSL signal on the modem - right now i'm thrilled i have voice. According to the Call Center the line is active but its not syncing with the router and so they have to log a fault which could potentially cost me R500
