ADSL Line dropping at certain times

I'm having a very frustrating time with my ADSL line at the moment. The line drops and reconnects constantly, but it only seems to happen at certain times of the day, mostly between 5pm and 7pm and after that it's rock solid again. Yesterday I had the Telkom "technician" out, and on cue (fortunately) it started dropping while he was there. He connected his router it he had no problems, but then when I plugged my Netgear router back in it was also fine. The only difference was that we disconnected the phone and the filter, and he then declared that the filter was faulty and signed off the fault. Last night the problem was back and by 8pm it was solid again. I haven't been able to identify another time slot where I have disconnections yet, as I work during the day, but after 7pm I never have problems.

I can't remember the Netgear model number but I think it is DGN2200 (Not a Telkom router). The only highlight in this sad saga was the "technicians" comment about Netgear routers having a problem that the username and password gets "worn out" after a while.

Has anybody here experienced time based ADSL problems like I am having at the moment?

Yes! I am having the exact same problem
Last month or so

I have a Billion DSL router from mweb (had the telkom branded one and never did it but got fried about a month ago).
The router log basically shows it constantly losing signal, drops, reconnects, scales down speed, loses sync, repeats. Then after a day or so it will suddenly be back to normal, just to recur again later on. Currently been doing it since Thursday evening, still doing it now. I'm on the pinetown exchange. Irritating as f**. I cannot reproduce it on demand though, so I haven't had a telkom techy out since they will bill me if nothing is wrong when they come out.

Should maybe try another filter.
Don't have a spare router to try :<

Please update if you find out what it is

You have anything else connected to your phone line? Like burglar alarm or anything? Or maybe it coincides with microwave oven use or something?

Dedicated dsl line
- no phone, no fax, nothing else
- Some other electronics near the router (pc & printer) but they have been there for >2years.
- Not associated with anything specific like turning something on /off

I'm going to try to get my hands on a old telkom router like the one i had, and see if it does the same

Ive had the same problem with my billion router for the last two weeks. Will replace filters today and see if that helps.

So I swopped my Billion router to the stock standard backup Telkom branded DuoPlus300 and now its working like a charm, no bottleneck, no frequent line sync lost, nothing.

Now the question is, could the Billion be more susceptible to outside interference? E.g. my alarm radio sender ? It's monitored as far as I know. It is however monitored via a Cell phone, not plugged into the telkom line.
