I ditched Neotel (since I think it suck balls) and again got a 4mb Telkom line. When I lived in Sandton I didn't have to use a POTS filter, so I dont have one. Now that I'm in Randburg I cant seem to get it going again.

On my Billion Router I can actually see it is in Sync (ADSL light flickers while syncing and then stays on when in Sync). Then next to it is the PPP light. This is the light that says if I have access and I'm not capped. Now both are on.

In the Router Status I can see that the Down speed is 4096 and the Up speed 512. I checked my account details on another line and it worked fine.

From what I can remember I dont need port forwarding, right? The telephone cable is longer, so can this be the result of me not having a POTS filter now?
I dont have a phone on that port... it's straight to the Router.

I know there's an old router that needs a firmware update for it to work with XPSP3, but i'm still on SP2...

Any help?

So it's synching and connected to PPPoE

What isn't working then?

When I try to browse a site it just times out. Tried with Firefox and IE. Using Automatic settings.

I spoke to Telkom.. the first person just put the phone down in my ear when I told her the POTS filter has nothing to do with blocking viruses. The second person gave me a DNS (196.25.255.34 and 196.25.255.3) that I have to use... so will check and see if that works.

Yes it is verified - The guy said it was. Do you think it would Sync and Connect when its not Verified?

Aaah... That sorta makes sense. So after verifying it (which I did now) it should work if I add the DNS ip's?

Thanx for the help guys!

I only had to 'verify' my account by calling Telkom. What a crap description of turning the line on after everything finally works. They should call it something else.

On the bright side though, it only took 4 days since I ordered - which has to be a record for Telkom

"After selfinstall is done - use telkom cd to visit website and verify installation"

This step is quite a pain but usually avoids these issues

:) Glad u got sorted
