I have a 10mbps line. I was struggling to get speeds more than 1 mbps until tekom fixed a line fault.
What I noticed though was that after the line was fixed, I started getting 8mpbs+ results on speed test websites, but my browsing speed stayed more or less the same. Also when I download a file from my browser (Chrome/IE/Firefox) it downloads at about 100 kb/s... so 1mbps line equivalent.
I generally don't use download managers, but decided to get one because the downloads timed out and restarted and what not, this whilst continuing to fight with my ISP and Telkom about the speed.
When I installed a download manager, I noticed that files I downloaded using the download manager, downloads at anything between 700 - 1200 kb/s :wtf: but in the browser it is still around 100 kb/s.
This is at home with a normal D-link router, so there is not specific throttling set up or so and I have a capped DSL account with both Afrihost and WA, the same happens on both of them?
Any idea why the difference?
PS. I am specifically referring to normal HTTP downloads and not torrents, although my torrents have also gone up to about 1000 kb/s in some cases.
