ADSL Stellenbosch issues!

I have now called 10210 - waited ~12 minutes and finally requested the operator to move my line to another DSLAM that is less congested.
She told me that she cannot do it, so she'll forward the details to the specialist.

The Telkom fault reporting system sux so much for reporting congestion faults!

So now I'm very curious when this will happen!

Couldn't agree more! How hard is it to communicate through email?

When I called they told me that the was an issue at the stellenbosch exchange so high latency and a bad connection is to be expected an that nothing could be done to improve my service at the moment except resetting my line. Didn't help one bit.

Do you think I should ask to be moved to another DSLAM as well?

This is seriously getting out hand. Not only do wee need to deal with insane congestion issues, but we also have to deal with frequent downtimes. Meanwhile telkom is just twiddling their thumbs and expecting us to pay full price every month for subpar service.

My ADSL is currently synced at 4Mbps, but none of my ISP accounts can connect.

Can any of your ISP accounts connect?
It could be that Telkom ia busy working on my line at this very moment...

Yeah. My line is syncing correctly but I can't authenticate any ADSL account. This is the same thing that happened I think two weeks ago.

Yeah. I've also had that ADSL authentication issues quite a few times the past couple of months now.

Since Telkom has replaces my copper wires, my speed has really gone down the drain! Like now I'm never reaching 400KB/s any more, even 04:00 in the morning!

I'm now off the work, so that I can have Internetz again :)

I'm on WSTB Stellenbosch. 021887****

Even if my ADSL is working I only get sub 1mb speeds. Telkom needs to sort this out now.

Seems like a lof of people are having PPPoE authentication issues. A friend of mine and his parents' ADSL are also having this PPPoE authentication issues.

I've just gone and posted on Twitter and Facebook regarding this matter, but I'm not so confident that anything will come from it :(

At least I now got a reaction from someone else on Facebook regarding our situation in Stellenbosch:
I have been complaining since early - no reaction, as usual.
This is an ongoing issue which they can not fix. All I get is email messages stating :

The correspondence goes back to 27 February
"...I’ve forwarded to the relevant role players, as well as a few colleagues for might be able to assist in further diagnosing the issue. I will reply as soon as feedback is received...."

28 February
"...Congestion has been confirmed. Fault 16AWK021013 has been reported for the exchange area.

We are awaiting feedback from networks and planning for progress or ETR for congestion relief.

I’ve requested feedback by 12:00pm...."

Well, that day's 12h00 came and went, and the only time feedback was given, was after more email messages was sent.

04 March :
"..I apologize for lack of feedback. We are awaiting progress for area fault 16AWK021013.

I’ve been told that it is being worked on, however, have received no correspondence via email...."

17 March :
"...The fault reported for congestion is long outstanding, and while I can try to understand your community’s frustration, I am not in a position to commit to a repair date.

I have requested ETR but, I have not yet received a confirmation date for congestion relief...."

19 March
"...This issue is receiving attention. As stated in earlier correspondence, we are waiting on a timeline for congestion relief.

I’ve asked my manager to have someone from planning contact you. Unfortunately, we do not provide contact details of staff. ..."

Well, needless to say, nobody from that mysterious "planning" department has called.

The fault which I was complaining about is i.r.o. ADSL users working off the apparent dodgy Lynedoch exchange.

So, all we have been left with, is a company taking our money on a monthly basis, and not delivering the goods.

Oh, and you can try Twitter - the (non)reaction is the same there as here - once every so many days somebody peeks in, sends of some meaningless excuses, and disappears again behind the curtains of protection and anonymity.

I can confirm that I cannot authenticate from any ISP in Stellenbosch. I'm on a different line in Cape Town now.

Same here. Can't authenticate in Stellenbosch. Tried with Afrihost, Axxess and MWEB on two different lines.

Thats just great... And we should probably forget about the problem getting fixed over the long weekend...

Thank goodness its back up!

Yet I still only have 1/4 of my 4mb ADSL line speed.

I'm getting 120KB/s with my NNTP downloads, but my latency is then 2000ms+, where it used to be sub 20ms when I download at that speed.

At least the Internet is online again!
