ADSL Stellenbosch issues!

I just got off the line with Telkom, I phoned concerning the high ping I'm getting. The technician then recreated my port and I did another speed test while still on the line with her and saw that my ping hasn't improved. I then asked to be moved to a new DSLAM then she asked me, "Okay, what speed would you like to be changed to?" I was a little confused about this, Does moving to a different DSLAM change your speed? I tried having her explain it to me, but it seem she doesn't really know either and kept offering to change my line speed to 1mbps... Can anyone please explain it to me?

If you previously couldn't get 10Mbps on the DSLAM that you're currently on, then moving you to another DSLAM may give you 10Mbps.
Typically you should stay on the same speed when they move you to another DSLAM! Like Telkom moved my line to another DSLAM/exchange and I have kept the same line speed.

Next time just insist that they move you to an uncongested DSLAM and that they have to keep your line speed the same (or whatever the maximum speed is that you're paying for).

So frustrating. Congestion still a major issue. Seems like the time it starts is getting earlier and earlier. Line has only gotten worse if anything from the 4th. Off to Facebook and HelloPeter...

I've been having two weeks of complete internet bliss. Full speeds and low latencies. I guess they must have moved me.

Starting a few days ago*, my ping has been really bad. Jumping between 150 and 350ms all the time. I'm on the Stellenbosch Webersvallei exchange.

*Could've been longer, before a few days ago I hadn't been playing any games for a while.

Anyone else's line dead? Came home for lunch and net was down, fine this morning. Tried the usual fixes and no luck.

Yes. My line was connected but could get virtually nothing through. GTalk barely worked.
887 exchange. Been like that most of the day my wife says.

Thank goodness for Afrihost 3G backup.

Well my pings are still erratic after hours. Anyone see an improvement lately?

Mine also improved on Monday, it's about 90% normal now. I.e. instead of a constant ~30ms to afrihost.co.za I'm getting about 50-60ms with small spikes to ~80ms every few minutes.

I've been plotting my ping using PingPlotter on a 5s interval since the weekend.

Here's how it was looking over the weekend:

Here's the past 48 hours(Steam download spiked it a bit last night):

My line has been perfect for the majority of this month. I get a lot of dropped connections, but never too frequently. Other than that, full speed and perfect latencies.

Incredibly bad today :(. Telkom sent a technician the other day; he just asked if my line is working, to which I said yes and that I'm having congestion issues. He took down my number and I got an SMS telling me service has been restored... It's like they don't understand...

I patiently waited after the capacity upgrade was delayed, twice? Three times? And now over ten days since it was supposedly live, I still have >100ms latency with bad spikes to a Cape Town server after 7pm. I advise anyone else having issues to drop Telkom a message on Facebook with your line number. It's worked before...

I am having major problems in Jamestown:( Anyone have more detail around the issues?

Using one of those Fon devices, seems the wireless is also playing up, so not quite sure how much is to do with my device vs lines vs exchange vs IPC vs MWEB.

Still having bad pings at night, Telkom not answering on Facebook...

Is anyone getting full line speeds in the evenings and peak times yet?
I think mine is getting slower

Have you contacted Telkom? I've tried them here and on Facebook with no replies yet. Dreading having to go the call centre route.

Edit: TelkomZA got back to me on the forum, they will try to move me to another DSLAM when possible.

I will send them a message on the forum now.

They have sent countless technicians to look at the line but it is perfect.

My router says my attainable speeds are 8224 Kbps up and 968 Kbps down.
